Is there a way to easily remove a news subscription (like right clicking on the item in the main list)

I moved this to its own thread, as it's not related to the subject in the other thread. It isn't totally clear what you want. There are recipes and you can schedule recipes to run. I'm not sure which you are calling a "news subscription"

You can cancel any scheduled recipes by selecting it on the schedule screen and unclicking the option box to the right. You can delete any of your own news recipes (custom recipes) on the custom news screen. There's no way to remove builtin recipes. Those are available to all and are part of Calibre.
