oh yeah, another rant from me (you guys must think i'm a whiner now xD). i hate it that amazon screws us international users over by not allowing us access to the free kindle ebooks and instead adds $2.00 additional charge across the board ; -;

They did about up to 3 months ago here in Australia... but now they're genuinely free... at least from what I checked the other night, I saw my wife downloading a whole swathe of free books and today I picked up a few 99c ones.

I just got my iPhone bill for the time we spend in Florida. $500 USD! I'm going back to two tin cans and a piece of string!

I think the problem arises with the fact that every local call I made, and every time I accessed my e-mail, it turned into a long distance call. I don't know enough about how these things work, but I was so pleased that my phone worked in the US that I didn't question it. All I saw was that it was connected to the AT&T network, so I figured everything would be local. My fault for not checking before we arrived.
I did look into pre-paid phones once we arrived, but the only ones that seemed to be available were just 'phone only.' I needed something with Internet capabilities as well as GPS function. My iPhone did everything and more, but I guess I paid long distance charges for it all. Oh well... it's only money. Nobody's shooting bullets at me so I'm sure I can survive. Stitchawl |

Last time I went abroad, I didn't have more than a plain + text cell phone. I knew it wouldn't work, so I didn't bring it. But since I love going to the UK (4 trips so far) I'm sure I'll be tempted the next time I go, and will want to use my network connection. I hope the world creates more easy solutions, soon!

I have a drawer full of cell phones. I can buy them for peanuts almost on every street corner in S.E. Asia. Used phones but still in good working condition. Buy the phone for $10 and a sim card for another $3 and I'm good to go. Every shopping mall, every street market, plus plenty of random sidewalk vendors, all selling cheap mobile phones. Sim cards are sold in every convenience store, usually for several different carriers.
But not in the US. I wonder why? Stitchawl |

@Stitchawl: isn't there a general difference in tech?
AFAIR Japan-cell tech is non-gsm based or am i wrong? @Rumpelteazer: what we know as pet food may contain a lot of crap (and usually does) as far as EU regulational limits go. there's a company called anifit setting higher standards for their cat and dog food but I'm not sure if they are active in the netherlands too. Since we give their stuff to our jackR terrier no troubles anymore. you might like to google them locally (maybe there is a dutch reseller) - best wishes for the poor cat and you as suffering owner @maianvk: admirable stuffs: I'd never have the fine motorical skills and patiance for that. my respect and as a side-note on origami polyhedrals in general: how damn cool - roleplayers dice made of paper. that lifts the def. "pen&paper-RPG" to a whole new level ![]() |
