SameOldStory, old friend, your call for CULTURE will not be unanswered ...

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Andres Segovia was born on February 18, 1894, in the town of Linares, Jaén, Spain.
The son of a humble carpenter, is likely to have grown up with him would never have been able to follow his musical vocation. However, fate would put in the hands of guys who enjoyed a comfortable economic position ... And yet, things were not so simple.

The refrain repeated in the childhood of many of the great musicians of the story is that their families were not welcome their artistic endeavors. And Andres Segovia was no exception. For him, the family wanted the job as a pharmacist, and therefore had no choice but to study guitar alone and in secret.

To this must be added the fact that in the years of his childhood, the guitar was an underrated instrument, it was considered typical of the Gypsies and their dancers.
His first teacher was a barber flamenco tastefully ripped the strings of the guitar. Then, during adolescence, was at the Music Institute of Granada, where the practice was gradually expanding flow of resources that allowed him to refine their performance.

And even the passage of years, having become the largest in the world classical guitarist Andres Segovia was still under preparation. He never stopped studying and practicing the guitar had at least five hours a day.

His taste for the instrument and put the interest in learning led him to move quickly. In 1910, when he was 16, gave his first concert in the Spanish city of Granada, where he presented a repertoire that had formed to scores found in libraries and adaptations of works by great musicians.

Although he continued giving recitals, was a presentation given in Madrid in 1913 which considered its debut Segovia. Since I had a good guitar, decided to rent it and the result was a resounding success.

Eleven years later, in Paris, was presented as an international virtuoso. He was 31 years and was the best guitarist in the world.

In addition, he was fond of reading, the books of philosophy and history were his favorite. Even well into the seventies, had begun to write his memoirs that was titled "The guitar and me." Andrés Segovia was married three times during the 94 years he lived. The first two times widowed, and his third wife, Emilia del Corral, whom he affectionately called Emilita, was forty-five years younger than him and escorted him to the last moment of his life.

After many presentations, awards and applause throughout the world, the king of Spain in 1981 awarded the title of Marquis of Salobreña. Six years later, Segovia was working on his investiture speech as doctor honoris causa when death surprised him. He was 94 years, most of them dedicated to his passion: the guitar.

It sharpens (focuses) the mind. Most stringed instruments can have that effect if played right. Instruments like base and deep percussion have a different effect. Woodwinds still another.

The brother of a girlfriend of mine went to Juilliard school of music in NYC and talked about the effects that music can have on the mind. He may be famous by now, but I don't know. I don't even remember her last name after all these years, never mind his.

Then again, it has been many years (35-40?) and I could have it wrong.

Probably a result of a deteriorated mind caused by listening to too much shshshshaving cream.
