Openstreetmap for Epub
I wanted to carry around some maps from openstreetmap since ages on my sony pocket reader
finally I've compiled some scripts that fetch tiles over an arbitrary number of zoom levels from a given server and packs them into an epub with a bunch of cross referenced xhtml files to allow for interactive zooming and panning attached is a sample from Europe over zoom levels 4-6, compiled for my PRS-300. The sample epub will not be useful for screen resolutions smaller than 600x800px I've put the scripts on http://osm2epub.google.com. It's still in an early phase, but working already one problem is, that the rendered tiles are optimized for viewing on devices with low pixel densities (LCD screens etc.). The E-ink displays have much higher pixel densities, which makes the labels on the maps barely readable. cheers ventosus |
