Now that's really rich. I'm the one who is rather content with a machine we both seem to have bought. You're the one that seem to be quite unhappy with it. And you're laughing at me ? I'm the 'poor' lucky guy then ? You remind me of a dutch person I knew a few years back. Never content this person was, always yelling rudely at people who seemed to owe him something - in his opinion, mind you. He always felt short changed for some reason or another. Ready to spill critisism at any time too, but couldn't stand to take a single remark... Hope you for your sake that you sell that PB302 soon though. So we can restrain ourselves from getting too personal towards eachother, instead on focussing on the real problem: the crappy PB302!! If it would have done everything they said it could do, it would have been a great device. And (this is for Joepie) the PB302 NEVER was able to perform anyway near was was promised (that's a fact). And Pocketbook never ever came through on a promise they made (that's a fact also). Anyone saying otherwise is living with his or her head in lala-land. If I wanted a simple ereader than I would have bought one.

I found this part of your post intriguing. I am new to ereaders in general and Pocketbooks in particular. My understanding was that the "Guys in Kiev" were Pocketbook - with the former phrase a kind of casual reference to the main company. From your posting, it appears I am wrong. Can you or someone, please enlighten me as to the relationship between the GiK and PB? I would suggest though, that "...the Guys in Kiev didn't managed to deliver their promises on time..." is rather an understatement. Oh, and many thanks for your work in another thread with improving the firmware of the 302. I bought mine not expecting much in this regard, but long-time owners are no doubt grateful. Cheers,

We were told that programmers are fiercely independent, that they were made co-owners of the company. http://pocketbook-int.com/ The guys that post here, Mtravellerh and Forgosigan work for Pocketbook Readers GmbH, Deutschland. Some one and a half year ago Forkosigan met PocketBook developers at some fair in Germany and he decided that he wants to sell PocketBook devices in Germany. So he started a company that is now called Pocketbook Readers GmbH, Deutschland. Forkosigan later hired Mtravellerh as Public Relations manager for PocketBook GmbH. So there are two separate companies. One designs produces and programs devices and another one that sells them to the rest of the world. Dulin's Books is one of resellers that sell PocketBook devices. Recently he and other resselers from USA are forbidden to sell devices to Quote:
To make matters even more complicated some time ago PocketBook company from Ukraine started some cooperation with Netronix (where first models were manufactured). Recently I heard that they do not cooperate as much anymore, and that the last models are manufactured by Foxcon. Please correct me if I misunderstood, misstated or omitted something.

Every new little piece of info seems to confirm my point of view. The PB302 firmware is an abandoned mess and 'the guys from Kiev' don't give a sh... They just seem to keep on selling promises (in the form of new hardware with unfinished firmware AND vain promises they make through their german representatives in order to keep business going). I seriously think this is a pity. The way PB started out with the 360 was exemplary and great (for those who don't know: PB360 development was originally strongly based on user feedback and led to the -at the time- best ereader on the market with mutual dedicated user and developer cooperation). What happened? Last edited by adbosch; 02-18-2011 at 08:52 AM. |

I feel for some of you PB 302 owners. I was a nascent PB360 fan for two months before my PB360 on/off button jammed. It's on its way to repair but am a bit skeptical at this point. Am holding off promoting PB for people in my neck of the woods.... Hopefully they will deliver their promises for the pb302 AS well as updating their fw for the other models.

Hi review, kacir, many thanks for your added info - I appreciate it. I will take this opportunity to add to m2heikamp's observation about owners pleased with their 302s. But only by a half (to 1.5), for although I have one that is functioning (for the moment) as designed, it's the second one I bought. It was going to be prohibitive for me to return the other, so I gifted it to my sister, who could not afford a device at all, and thought the quality defects (broken internal clock, sd card not being removable) mattered little to her. My ire is raised through the apallingly unsatisfactory dealings with one supplier (I bought my second elsewhere), and the general lack of support. The words I have used to describe PB as a whole, still apply, and this thread must surely be costing many, many sales of current devices. But to the dedicated, intelligent, and helpful members of this forum, I am and will remain, extremely grateful. Cheers, |
