You ask either robot what door the other robot will tell you to take, then you take the opposite door to the one he told you to take.
The truth telling robot will tell you the door the other robot would tell you, so it is the wrong door. The robot that tells a lie would tell you the opposite door that the truthful robot would tell you, so both will give you the wrong door, take the other. |

This is an ancient puzzle. The oldest known example was found in Propositiones ad Acuendos Juvenes, which dates to the late ninth century.
You are a farmer taking a fox, a chicken and a bag of grain to market and you come across a river. The only way across the river is by a small boat, which can only hold at most you and one of the three items. Left unsupervised, the chicken will eat the grain or the fox will eat the chicken (however, the fox won't try to eat the grain, nor will the fox or the chicken wander off). What's the quickest way to get everything across the river? |

Take the chicken across, then go back, bring the fox across, but bring the chicken back to the starting point and then take the grain across to where the fox is. Then go back for the chicken. Or you could just skip all that and trebuchet them across. (Can trebuchet be used as a verb?)
Yes, but be careful, my husband might trebuchet you ![]() Last edited by Latinandgreek; 02-15-2011 at 04:59 PM. |

A father and son are having a conversation. The father turns to the son and says:
"You know son, there was a time when your old man was twice the age of your mother. Of course, the next year I was only 1 1/2 times her age, but still, that's pretty amazing, eh?" If the father is 44, how old is the mother? Karma to anyone who can tell me where I got that specific riddle from ![]() |

How did the kidnapper get away with the valuable diamond? |
