I knew someone who was a lawyer for one of the artifical sweetners who refused to drink or eat anything with artifical sweetners. I asked him why he wouldn't use his compaies product, or anything similar, and he said he had a good idea about what law suits were coming down the pike. After that I decided that it would be better to work out a bit more and take in the extra calories from natural sugar or just avoid the products using that crap all together.

Give me the extra calories in a Coke over whatever the hell they put in the Zero, Max, and diet products. I don't trust that crap. Then again, I try and limit my soft drink consumption to a few helpings a week.

Tea is a wonderful replacement for me.

I'm kind of the same way -- leftover from my college days when my chemistry professor scared us to death about artificial sweeteners and wouldn't touch them himself. Things have changed a lot since then -- he was specifically alarmed about aspertame, and there are a lot of new choices now, but I still prefer to take my chances with good old sugar or honey. I don't really care for soft drinks so that's not a big problem for me anyway. Artificial sweeteners have added to the quality of life for plenty of diabetics, I think, so far be it from me to say that they shouldn't be available. I don't need them myself, though, so I try to stay away.

Actually the one I have is made of mesh not holes in metal as pictured. I've been using it at work with green peach tea and I can't taste the difference between it and the pot.

Though I'm sure you'll put me right.

heheh

The difference is the amount of room that the tea leaves have to open. The more room to tea leaves have to open, the greater amount of surface area on the tea leaf to come in contact with the hot water, the more of the oils and nutrients come out of the tea leaf, the better the tea is in taste and health properties.

Tea baskets work well because the give the tea the space it needs to more fully open and taste its best. The tea spoons and calls tend to be pretty confined so the tea cannot open fully making the tea a bit weaker then it could be.

Tea baskets normally only cost a few dollars more then a tea spoon and are easier to clean.

You can sign me in too.
I am very suspicious of any artificial substitutions.
I almost never drink coca cola or pepsi cola anymore, but if I do it once in a blue moon during summer time, it is a standard one, not diet.

I keep trying to go to bed at 11:30ish but the hubby likes the tv on and I get fixated on the tv and I end up not falling asleep until 1 AM.

We had our first night were one of us did not have to get up at 4 AM to take the puppy out to take care of business. Interestingly enough, it was the first morning in ages that the dogs, puppy and 1 year old, were not up an dmoving and whining as soon as my alarm went off. They seemed to be content to sleep in.

Cooper is 6 months old so he should be able to go the entire night now, yeah. I am hoping that this mornings sleeping in performance continues. Caya used to get up at 7 AM and need to go out. Before we got Cooper, Caya would actually sleep to about 8 AM and then go find a patch of sun to nap in until one of us got up.

I had gestational diabetes with my second pregnancy. After weeks of misery, and trying everything under the sun to replace my regular Dr Pepper, I found out it wasn't the caffeine or the sugar taste I was missing - it was the fizz! At that point I finally tried diet Dr Pepper (til that point I hated diet drinks for the nasty aftertaste). This was before obstetricians started telling pregnant women "No Caffeine!" in tones of fire and brimstone. (By the way, I can't tell that consuming caffeine during either pregnancy hurt either kid one tiny bit...nor are they hyper or ADD. )
Anyway, Diet Dr Pepper worked, and I still prefer it over the sugared versions. But - it is the only drink I'll drink the "diet" version of, and I sweeten tea with sugar or honey.

Yep, and I know several people who really can't have sugar because of diabetes. I really like my sweet iced tea so I'd probably be first in line for the Splenda (or whatever) if I were diabetic! My niece, a confirmed Dr Pepper addict, switched to diet DP about 6 months ago. She really prefers it now.

I switched when I worked out that I was getting about a quarter* of my calories from the sugar in the Coke I was drinking. I initially switched to Diet Coke, but I'm very pleased there's now Coke Zero.

In my cup: Yes, Coke Zero #4!

* a 330ml can of coke contains just under 140kcal of sugar. 4 cans is therefore about 550kcal.
