Thinking in replacing Kindle DXG
So... Wife is traveling, Monday is San Valentin day here in USA and she asked me today if instead of flowers, chocolates and all ladies stuff, an iPAD
![]() With 2 Kindles and a Galaxy Tab, have "no moral right" to say no. Anyway, budget is not an issue here but she gave some options. Of course another gadget would be fantastic but with so many readers I will start to feel myself like a hoarder besides I'm not a big Apple's fan (sorry, I'm just being honest) My questions would be: if I sold my Kindle DXG, can I side load my Oreilly mobi books into iPad? And if thats possible which ereader can I use, Kindle for iPad? Similar question would be for my ePub books. If I jump into Apple's waters I want to be sure I can read my PDFs and SQL books Before selling my Kindle DXG. Thanks in advance, |

You can load any DRM-free Mobi book into the Kindle app, and any DRM-free ePub or PDF book into Apple's "iBooks" app. There are also numerous other readers available on the iPad.

Just got one from Best Buy, the 16GB wifi version. I'm testing and comparing right now. Alone today so plenty of time in my hands to play with it. |

I'm playing with some Oracle PDF books now using a tool some folks mentioned here: Good Reader. Not free but cheap; downloaded and started using it. All I can say is ... Wow! ... I'm impressed, really impressed. That stuff really let you work and manipulate the PDF document. It also changes pages really fast!
Kind of annoying and weird that I had no USB though, really miss that. Spend several min learning how to upload stuff into iPad, using DropBOx or even the same Goodreader. It feels really strange not having file access or USB conectivity. |

I'll tell you what I wish someone had told me at the beginning: Organize your main library on itunes, then occasionally "sync" to the ipad. Avoid dragging things to the iPad. It makes the whole itunes experience much less painful.
Also, use ibooks. In my opinion goodreader is only better for pdfs that need cropping, and (ironically) for downloading tv episodes. Last edited by Mirrorlike; 02-13-2011 at 06:29 PM. |

Right.
I just downloaded that one for PDFs but I am using iBooks for the non-drm ePubs. haven't tested mobis on Kindle app. In Android is just drag and drop inside the folder. Again, really miss my mini SD and USB port. It has been a mixed feelings experience so far , but I'm impressed with how Goodreader handles PDFs. Also, not book related but like having Netflix; I don't have it on Android. |

you are feeling what I did when I had my 4th gen Touch for a couple weeks. I really grew to like it and the more I "tested" the better I liked it. However I never did adapt to the limitations access wise and knew I never would beyond just accepting the inevitable and dumbing myself down enough to do it "The Apple Way".
Also a limitation you may never encounter is for Audible content. You are limited to ONLY two accounts on the device at any given time. We have 4 or is it 5 accounts so no way to really get the most out of Audible for us and Audible is very reluctant to consolidate accounts though I understand if you ask nicely enough the might do a one time consolidation for people. Because we use audiobooks from Audible a lot, that was a big short coming for us. But I really like the way the apps worked. Some were quirky but not bad. Then again I was spoiled with the Retina Display...wowzers!! ![]() |

I will keep it ...
I've decided I'll keep the iPad....actually, I'll keep both ...
![]() The iPad is growing on me. I can't use it for long reading sessions, gives me a little bit of eye strain, but love Goodreader and the way it handles PDFs. Zinio, when not perfect for all magazines is awesome too. Just bought Car and Driver and National Geographic and the experience is really nice. Being able to run Netflix moved the balance on iPad's favor too; I don't have Netflix on my Galaxy Tab, at least not natively. I will keep the DXG though. The iPad is way much better for PDFs but I still prefer the DXG for reading my computer books. |

Stanza
I like stanza for reading pubs. Stanza has numerous backgrounds for both day and night time reading plus fonts and colors for text, hyperlinks etc. iBooks does not have night theme, only sepia.
