Not a problem. Especially when things go wrong, DRM is just plain frustrating for most people, so venting some spleen with invective is perfectly understandable (even understated).

If you didn't see my post #42 (in response to JSWolf's post), please go check it out. Also check out JSWolf's post as well - he was pretty much spot on, given what you described (works for one user on the machine, but not the other), some firewall, AV or other security settings would appear to be the culprit.

fwiw, I recall McAfee specifically mentioned as a possible problem.

@Gentlemanbeggar- have you opened a case via the web (I posted a link early on). Adobe resolved my "too many activations" problem overnight.

If your wife's ID is reset, do you have a 2nd computer to work from? I'm thinking if something is wrong with your wife's pc, and has problems writing to the registry (or wherever the ID is "remembered") it might be a good idea to start with a different pc.

Still a no-go, and now I'm getting "too many activations" again. We tried disabling all the startup items, etc. and it still asks for activation. We've been trying to launch it from the desktop icon every time. It's really quite disheartening.

Her case number is: 0182013254

Some additional information, in case it matters--She is running AVG free for virus protection. We also turned off the windows firewall, to no avail. In comparing the registry entries for both user accounts, I find that under "Adept/Activation/" the user account that works has fewer entries than the one that doesnt. Also, the content of those entries doesn't line up. (ie. 003 on hers doesn't contain the same info as 003 on mine).

Any more thoughts?

One question I have is why in ADE when you delete an eBook does the file stay even though it no longer shows in ADE? Why is ADE wasting disk space in the C drive when we've supposedly deleted the eBook?

I'm guessing here, but for books you've paid for, deleting books from the ADE library is just for bookkeeping purposes (no pun intended). After all, you've paid for the book, so you should be able to retain a copy. If your computer is getting cluttered, I use a free online storage site to upload (and backup) stuff: www.adrive.com . You get 1 gig of free storage I believe.

For books I've borrowed from my library, once returned, I still have the digital copy, but it's rendered unreadable after it's returned.

ADE don't touch the files at all. Don't copy them either. It just let them be. It manages books, not files .

But when I tell ADE to delete or return an eBook, it doesn't actually remove thee Book from the computer. So eventually, the ADE directory will get rather cluttered with eBooks that should not be there.

I have ADE whining more often because I moved / deleted that is still in its library, than the other way around.
When you open a book in ade, it import it in it library. Books in the library can be anywhere actually. There it don't make sense to have to delete the file when you want to remove the book from the library.
I'm glad it don't delete the book IMHO. Though a "delete file on drive" checkbox, why not.
The ade folder is a bit like "download" folder for me.I use ADE only for download, and cheeking ePub when editing.

Now it's time to reinstall Windows on the old computer since something is buggered.

The option is to delete the book, not just remove it from the library. That should delete the book. There could be an option to remove the book from the library. That would work as long as deleting the book actually deleted it.
