Yes, this behavior was discovered shortly after launch. It will charge over USB, just slower than via the wall charger.

WHAT DOES THE DIFFERENT LED LITS COLOR MEAN ON THE NOOKCOLOR CHARGER? MINE IS CURRENLY STUCK BETWEEN RED AND YELLOW/ORANGE?????....And it use to turn green ...but not anymore

My local BestBuy and B&N store are 30 minutes away from my house. I specifically went and got one and during the setup I noticed a spot under the glass and had to go and return it. It was smack dab in the middle of the screen. The second worked like a charm.

Make sure that you have the NC charging cable plugged into the wall socket adapter, and not plugged into a computer's USB port.

My first NC had the issue, but I returned it for another reason (sound stopped working after it goes into sleep mode). The new one does not have the issue, so it's not all of them. I would return and get a new one.

It should be orange when charging and turn green when it is fully charged.
