During the Vietnam war, the world was kept abreast of each days fighting and results. Today, the government has forbidden such broadcasts. Censoring the news. We know it's going on. We know it's censorship in the most basic form. Yet we allow it. "For the good of the country." What other news that we never hear about is being censored out? That's the news we SHOULD be hearing. So why bother with the news?

following the weather was an even worse addiction. all conversation had to cease whenever the weather channel was updating the weather. (I don't even know what channel that is). I was constantly reproached for not being on top of the weather

I can understand this. After all, the more you know about the weather, the more you can do something to change it, right?

I have one my son made for me with he was about 8 years old... looks quite like the ones they sell here for $200,000.00 Something is not right...
I'd love to hear about the museum (including the name) when you have a chance. Those tea bowls look pretty funky sometimes but the dimensions of the bowl's interior, the shape of the foot, the characteristics of the clay, etc., are all critically important.

(Also sometimes one eventually develops a taste for the funky ;-)

The writing on your new 'Japanese' cup.... it's Chinese. I had my wife double check for me, as the Japanese do use many Chinese characters that they 'borrowed' when making their written language, but the one's on your new cup are definitely Chinese. Sorry.

But thank you ... thank you so much.

It is not new. It was in the house, left there by some of my previous or actual wifes. I am glad to know that it is not Japanese. this gives me such a good excuse to by some Japanese one. Modern, by all means. Please bring to your kind wife my most sincere thanks.

You made my day.

No, dear I did not know. Actually the tea shop has a few like that. This gives me a good subject of discussion with the little lady of the shop.

Yes, the small sips and the noises. I am aware of that. I actually enjoy doing it. It is useful while drinking coffee in a bar. It makes more room around me instantly. I learned to do it when tasting wine. The clicking makes a small cavitation that evaporates the aromatic substances.

Yes it is a rude sound, but not as rude as the other sounds that are emitted by the mouth during a meal after that some of it has entered the cavities of the body. The aspiration of air, which is consequent to the noisy drinking and eating which is more a sucking in, promotes the production of deep rumbling audibles, that are considered manifestation of the highest appreciation. I some part of the world. Not where I live or in the circle of my friends and acquaintances. No.

An old episode.
Spoiler:
Ages ago, I had the good fortune of being engaged as a research associate by a prestigious North America University. The second graduate student that I had to supervise was originally from a Far East country that is not Japan and neither is China. This guy was and is an immense source of merriment and satisfaction for his never ending adventures. He is like a vortex in the structure of the universe. Things happen to him. Generally good, like getting me as his supervisor. After about 6 months without me hitting him with a wooden stick as he probably expected, he thought that was his duty to invite me out for dinner. He told me that he had to honor two men in his life: his father and his teacher, and as his father was so far away he had to double honor his teacher, that was me and he actually pointed a finger in my direction. He was telling me these things with a straight face, looking at me and seeing my long hair, the general yippee attire and that far out look. I realized than that he lived in one unique continuum were facts, desires and dreams were intertwined and inseparable. He took me to some fancy Chinese eatery on the outer ring of the town. He reserved for two but he had is wife with us just to serve us. A ridiculous thing as she was the nicest and smartest girl and, although very young, already a professor in Ancient Corean (not very useful where they were living). He loved her as the light of his eyes, for that he was visibly reciprocated, but that was the way. She had to serve us, and did it admiringly. Obviously we all took this as seriously as we could and each played his part at his best. He certainly did not have problems emitting rumbling and exploding sounds in sign of appreciation, which he did not do when he had his lunch in the office. The climax was when he payed the bill. He had a roll of denominations, like they used to and some still do in the Americas. Apparently he kept it in his underpants, because he put his hand in, with some effort went down and came back with his roll and a silly grin on his moonshine face. Pecunia non olet. Money does not stink. How false.

These are the implements that I use/intend to use at the moment for making and drinking tea.

Some obviously are recycled coffee mugs, like the Svalbarg one that either I stole or was given to me, I do not remember. The big white cup in the back is what I use to brew tea. I usually drink black teas in the glass cup or in the blue raku at the back on the left. The nice blue behind the Chines one that I thought was Japanese, that one was made by a friend with my design. the Vassar shot is just to show off, I will never use it for tea.

Now the problem that I have for green teas is the size of the cup. Small is better obviously, but what about leaving the leaves in the teapot? they will spoil the tea. I think that I have to empty the teapot at each steep. Doubts, frustrations. Fundamental elements for every progress.

I think I also need one of those glass things with metal holders they use in Russia and northern Europe. Are they of any use? I see them but I never actually used them. I sort of got the idea that Astra is familiar with those.

A lovely collection!
I'm quite boring by comparison. I use one vessel, my tankard. When it comes to tea and me, bigger is better. One full liter at a time. And electric hot water heater/dispenser and disposable tea bags. My claim to expanse is that I use two different sizes of teabags.

The water heater is a four liter pot that needs to get refilled three times every two days. My tankard gets scraped clean at least once a week, if it needs it or not.

Tea! Tea! My kingdom for more tea! Right now drinking no-name pellets of pu-ehr.

I bought this one to save time, a capacity of 355ml is better than my old tiny tea cup.
