Sorry to hear that, my moms the same way, the filter* for family isn't there like it is for other people. Cheer up, you get to choose her nursing home

I use that "filter" description, too! I've commented a few times that as people get old they just begin losing those filters. It doesn't excuse bad behavior, but sometimes I have to make allowances when I know the intent isn't malicious.

Besides the lower filter level, for family -- there is the fact that we usually especially *want* approval from our parental units. So we are extra sensitive to their comments. That doubles the whole problem!

Yeah, I think her filter has become a bit hit and miss. At least it wasn't a mean comment about the s.other this time.

But I'm afraid she has made it quite clear that once I'm going to be stuck in one place for a long time (out of grad school, settled down with a job I plan to keep) she's going to move nearby!

I am really hating computers now. A little while back an upgrade of my virus scan went wrong, managed to get thing right in safe mode. Tonight I wanted to watch a dvd on my notebook. Everything seems fine. Windows had finished an update on booting and after a couple of minutes the system hung, then when it came out of it the screen went black and I only saw the mouse arrow. Tried rebooting (both is normal and safe mode) but all I get is a black screen with an arrow.

I'm now running the recovery dvd hopefully a reinstall will do the trick. Might be a long night!

All I wanted was to watch a dvd!

You know what ticks me off? The verb read. Who was the genius that decided that the present and past tenses should be spelled alike, although one is pronounced "reed" and the other "red"? And who in name of all that's holy first decided it would be a good idea to use it as a noun?

I suggest that whoever's in charge of making the English language uniform should make the following changes to its usage:

Present tense:
I read. You read. They read.

Past tense:
I redd. You redd. They redd.

As a noun:
The author's latest novel is a good book.

I have spoken.

Arrrrghhh! I sympathize. My city is having a free e-cycle event tomorrow so guess what I just loaded up in my car? 3 24" CRTs 1 20" crt, 8 tower type cpus, two small Televisions (no hd) and one Johnson Viking AM Transmitter from the 30's (or so eeek!). I'm sure they are going to accuse me of commercial dumping. but it's really not ... just a 20 year collection.

oh and I smashed a hard drive with a sledge just for you Rumpelteazer!
