As I'm a programmer myself I think it's justified to abandon an older device after a few years. It "should" get updates later on and it "should" get supported but think about the profit margin of these products. They didn't spend a huge pile of money for 'lifelong' updates. If you get lucky the open source community will adjust an alternative firmware and you're fine. An be realistic, do you really think a device that costs 379 USD will be supported for dozen of years? You could add life long support but then you would have to pay 800 USD or more. So get reasonable - the technological and 'capitalistic' progress don't stop that easy. Get reasonable. Products change rapidly and companies can barely keep up with their newest products much less the old ones.
All Kindles prior to the K3 are now OBSOLETE. Why should Amazon support them at all? They are trying to just get the K3 to some plateau before they introduce the K4. Once the K4 is out, I would definitely NOT expect anymore support for the K3. I have a Sony PRS 900 just purchased a little over a year ago. Sony doesn't upgrade that product either. If we want to stay with old products, we should NOT expect continuing support for them. The Kindle DX Graphite is OBSOLETE now. You must just accept that fact. |

From a hardware perspective those with a kindle are going to be less likely to get a new one any time soon. With that in mind it would make sense to update some of the prior ones since that's the customer base. Those that own kindles are more likely to buy kindle books (obviously) than those that use the kindle for pc/mac etc platforms.
In other words you tend to not tick off your user base. Although I am not sure as to how long that should be it should not be that hard to support things for a few years. We aren't talking five years here I'd say a few. |

Had I got the older DX, I wouldn't have cared as much... I believe I have the freedom to express my displeasure without the Amazon apologists dictating how i should base my expectations when buying Kindles? P.S : why did the term fanboy offend you? Ohhh....it's the KDXG. Given what you wrote the latest Amazon 9.7" eBook Reader is obsolete since the new 6" Kindle 3 is there. Makes sense. You must be from Amazon product management. ![]() |

Did you bother to address any of that? No.... so much easier to jump in in blissful ignorance of who has already said what in the thread and call anyone who says anything critical of your post or your ranted point of view a "fan boy". Takes so much less effort. You know very well why, or you wouldn't have used it. Fanboy, apologist - all terms intended to accuse the other person of having a blinkered and unthinking point of view not based on reality or the facts, where the object of that person's adulation can do no wrong in their eyes, and they simply won't hear any criticism of them, regardless of how much or how little that criticism is justified. The fact that you throw the term at me is another clear indicator that you couldn't be bothered to read through the thread before lobbing your little tantrum at it. |

Guys, I understand the frustrations some of you might have but like others have also pointed out, Amazon has no legal obligations to update the DXG.
