Nothing like that. It's a television show... about space cowboys. With a fusion of Chinese and western culture. Inspired by books in WWII and the American Civil War. With fantastic acting, writing and direction. I hate trying to describe great things, I can never do them justice with my cursory descriptions

I wouldn't call it a fad, it's been off the air for 9 years now, and I've often seen it cited as the best Sci-Fi television series ever. Give it a try if you ever get a chance.

My hubby and I came late to the party. We didn't watch it on tv becuase we thought it didn't make any sense. Then, we learned that Fox screwed up! They showed the first few episodes out of order - How and why, no one knows. Plus, they started the show shortly before the World Series, so it was off the air for a while. people either lost intrest or forgot about it.
It wasn't until Serenity was coming out in the theaters that we decided to rent the series from Netflix. I think we got half way through the first disc and went out and bought the set. We then saw Serenity in the theater. I was upset by some of the decisions made in the movie, but I think I understand why Whedon did what he did.

I liked Firefly, but I loved Buffy a million times more, still do. I think I liked Farscape more than Firefly as well. It was way out there, but so awesome.

I don't know what to read right now. I have started and stopped 3 books, which is so unlike me. I am just not in the mood for some books right now.

Congrats on your 500th post Iridal!

Firefly's awesomeness was enough to draw me and the wife out of Michigan to Connecticut for a pre-screening of the unfinished Serenity movie.

Needless to say the Signal could not be stopped.

It's a shame that Fox mishandled it so badly, as we still believe that given a proper chance it would have caught on.

Neither Buffy nor X-Files were smash hits when they came out, yet as time went on they garnered many fans and became very profitable franchises.

This is why we refuse to watch anything on Fox live. I even go out of my way to download their shows to keep them from getting ratings info from us.

Just finished reading The Precipice by Ben Bova. I can't understand why I waited so long. I loved it! A much more cerebral read than most science fiction. I hope the rest of the series doesn't disappoint. Review here.

I just finished Avempartha, the second book in the Riyria Revelations and man, it was GOOD ! I've been reading everywhere I could because I just had to know what would happen next. Definitely a lot better than The Crown Conspiracy.

I was planning on rereading Lies of Locke Lamore and then Red Seas under Red Skies by Scott Lynch because the next book in this series will arrive on my doorstep next week. But there's been a change of plans: straight on to the next Riyria book: Nyphron Rising!

I think you better check again. I would be highly surprised (and extremely jealous) if The Republic of Thieves shows up on your doorstep next week.

Sorry if I'm the bearer of bad tidings, but the February release date was just a placeholder that the publisher forgot to change.

I'm currently reading Joe Abercrombie's The Heroes.

Hmm, I hope you're not right. I preordered at The Book Depository: http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9780575077010/ It says '8 days to go'.

But Amazon says 17 november Ugh, I was really looking forward to that book

It was good. I enjoyed it. Another half book though, so I'd really like to read the next one. Geographic restrictions. Grrr...

OK, next up is Saturn's Children by Charlie Stross. I bought this in August 2009, so it's about time I read it.

Don't feel bad, Iridal, or at least accept my sympathy. The ebook pub date on the next Dresden title has been pushed back from March to JULY. I was NOT a happy person when I found that out.

Just finished "A Stitch in Time" by Amanda Lee (aka Gayle Trent). It's the second in a new(er) series. She owns a needlework shop in Oregon, and people keep dropping dead in it.

Not sure what to read next. Just got the new Deborah Harkness, A Discovery of Witches that looks very intriguing. I also have the new Mary Stanton Beaufort & Co. waiting for me. I'm in a weird mood, like Care, I guess and can't settle to anything. Might have something to do with being home sick.

I haven't read it yet but Chris Wooding's Retribution Falls gets a lot of comparisons to Firefly.
