What system used epicycles to explain the discrepancies between our observations and the predictions of the geocentric model? And to make it a little more challenging, for what body's movements may epicycles actually be a correct explanation?

Would it be the circulatory system? It's a closed circle. Or the Lymph system? Or perhaps something smaller, like particle theory?
