I have to set up boundaries for myself, as I'm a fool concerning books.

I have too many books and music and too little time. Doesn't matter, I'm sure I will have that time some day and then I'll be prepared.

This is true, as I can attest from trying to read some magazines on my Sony using reflow. Still, it would be nice to have the option. On a Sony you can reflow the text or use the pan and zoom functions. It would be nice if the Kindle offered that option.

Desertblues' decision to get a DX looks like a good decision. No doubt the larger screen makes viewing PDF files more natural.

For PDFs I would go with a low cost net book. It's more versatile, they look better in color and you can still use the Kindle app. You have the other 2 Kindles for portability and battery life.

Ha! I had a budget of $30 a month. Good intentions and all that...

Sadly I didn't stick to it at all. 30 items bought so far this. I say items, since quite a few were box sets and omnibus editions.

Like I said, don't expect it.

That was the reason for the larger screen on the DX. Trying to view PDFs by side-scrolling is painful. The sort of material the DX is intended to read in PDF format is created assuming a larger viewing area than most dedicated readers have.

I was considering that, or a tablet device, but I decided that I really want an e-ink device. I get headaches from my computer screen if I don't take frequent breaks when working on something; I really want a device that I can comfortably read from.

My solution has been to read the text on my Sony PRS 600 and if I find a graphic or table I need a closer look at I make a note to read it that part on a computer.

I've done that too, in the past, but lately I've really been feeling the need for a large-screen device. I've been feeling it for a while, actually, but I've been putting off because I've found various work arounds. I'd be sharing the device with my husband, though, and his PDFs are almost all very technical and really can't be read off of my Sony 505. I have lots of scanned PDFs, too, that really don't read very well on my Sony. I know that the Kindle DX is missing some functionality in the PDF department, but it does seem like it would be the most comfortable thing for me to read on.

I got the Entourage Edge for the large screen but the battery life is killing me. I need to charge it every day so now I've ordered a Thinkpad Tablet from eBay that I will use as my work computer as well as for reading PDFs, although not an e-ink screen it is so much more flexible in all the other ways.
