Pity about iRex - I still like my DR1000S for reading PDFs and annotating, although you have to use the stylus.

LCD aside, the iPad is one of the easiest to use for reading PDFs and annotating (many different app choices for that - GoodReader, etc.). Pity you want only eInk, although the iPad display is very easy on the eyes.

The PB902 looks pretty good - again it is a stylus touch screen, so even though I'm sure it's improved on the DR1000 for response, ease of use, etc, it still can't compete with the iPad-type touch-screen interface that is so convenient to use.

Best of luck, and if you do get a PB902 I'd be interested in your thoughts on using it.

clarification- the 902 is not touch screen at all. the 903 is the one with the stylus digitizer.

Nice and informative thread!

I am currently in the same situation a Jian1, looking for a good eBook reader (academic use -- lot of PDFs with charts, tables and formula) to replace my dying iLiad.

To Jian1's list I'D add note-taking as a must, both by annotating a PDF as well as "freestyle" i.e. drawing / handwriting like with the iLiad.

Looking through this list and the comparison matrix mentioned earlier, I tend to the Pocketbook 903. Does it support arbitrary note taking (preferably with some stylus)?

Also a plus would be an SDK and the possibility to have shell access and install other programs ("Apps") on it. Does the 903 support that too?

I got my PB-903 from my-ebook-reader.eu. Nice and easy to use webshop, and really fast delivery: ordered Feb. 5th (Satureday) in the evening, arrived Feb 8th (Tuesday). They ship to most of Europe.

It seems that there are more new products being out this year... such as Notion Ink seems to be very intriguing. or should I at least wait until Pocketbook updates its screen to e-ink pearl? I felt buying a $300+ ebook reader seems to be not very reasonable

lol, dilemma, dilemma, dilemma...

Update:

I am waiting for the OnyxBoox M90, seems to be better than Pocketbook 902 with eInk Pearl + handwriting ability.
