There are some varieties, at least in Belgium. Curry ketchup (my favourite). And Veg'up. My mom used to make ketchup herself, now that was delicious.

my never agains are; cow udder schnitzel. so gross! fried brains, lung soup, blutwirst, any kind, but especially warm and freshly made. organ meat. calamari used to be on the list, but then I finally had some properly made. tripe, cooked celery, canned peas, any sweet jello salad. anything that features miniature marshmallows, and/or cool whip. sweet potatoes (which I truly wish I liked), any sweet squash, (another huge regret)

And Malcolm Gadwell has an interesting article on ketchup.

Mustard now comes in dozens of varieties. Why has ketchup stayed the same?
there's now a tabasco ketchup! I saw an article sometime last year talking about new ketchup without sugar and corn syrup. I was really excited about that, but so far all I've seen are no salt ketchups. I really liked the ketchup in Germany, but when I found that brand here it was like pancake syrup. I put tabasco on my fries, and occasionally ranch dressing or tartar sauce. malt vinegar of course with fish!

I just recently discovered my first 'never-again': canned macaroni and cheese. XP

As for fries, my preferred condiment is either mayo, or mayo mixed with a little bit of ketchup. I used to be a hardcore ketchup fan, but since discovering the wonder of mayonnaise, ketchup alone just seems too sweet, and lacking in something.

I'm curious, which brand was it? Surely not Heinz?

Ketchup variations: those that I've seen (Curry and so-called "hot") didn't read good. Like the green Tabasco, they mainly retained the name of the original but had a completely different composition.
Never heard of Tabasco Ketchup :-( Guess I'll continue adding the spices myself ("Pain is Good" Batch 37. Oh yes.)

I seldom eat ketchup anymore (although I don't HATE it), and I won't drink buttermilk straight but I love it in recipes. My go-to condiment on fries and baked potatoes, for example, is homemade buttermilk ranch dressing.
Ketchup tried branching out at least here in the US. We had colored ketchup for awhile for kids (purple ketchup? Even the kids protested) and some with added flavors, (I actually quite liked the garlic one). But apparently, it didn't sell well enough.

no, it wasn't heinz. it did say it was a curry ketchup, the bottle is plastic, kind of a rust color. completely unlike its counter part here which was sickly sweet. tabasco has made its way into not only the ketchup, but I just picked up a bottle of soy sauce with tabasco in it!

Vinegar is good. Sometimes I crave ketchup, sometimes steak sauce, sometimes just salt and pepper is good.

I once ordered mild curry in a restaurant that served Indian style food (India Indian). The only thing I've ever ingested that was any hotter was a hot sauce named "Death" that was sold with a skull chained to the neck of the bottle. I finished it, as required by the man code, but not without a trip afterward to the John to clear my sinuses.

And here's my never-again entry:

Anyone had the pleasure of eating Durian? Most Westerners hate it, but I don't mind it, as long as I don't eat to much. The taste isn't bad it's the smell that gets most people. If I had to describe the taste I would have to say like sweet nail polish, because thats what it smells like.

Most hotels in Malaysia have "No Durian" signs.

You have to wonder who first looked at an artichoke and said, "I think I'll try eating this..."

There's this program on one of the Discoveries we have, where somebody is trekking all over this globe and eating whatever the locals eat (and boy, are some of those things looking beyond gross!). At one episode, he walks by some durian and eats one, even though he hates the taste of it. Some girl behind a counter in that same shop refuses to join him in "tasting" it, but in the end some other women eats it with relish It only shows that taste is something learned.

Take for example: Salty liquorice. I once gave some to an American, he spitted it out as soon as he could. A Finnish exchange student finished the bag with me, as we both loved it

And how about some other raw fish, a Dutch treat:
the raw herring ( Hollandse Nieuwe)?
To eat that fish: grab it by the tail....lean your head backwards.....and let the whole herring slide inside. Yummie.

Though some of it can be a bit difficult to swallow

Warning...the easily offended may be...well, offended, but this is genuine and available in supermarkets in Denmark
