Buying a Kindle

Hi all,
I live in Canada and I am going to be purchasing a Kindle 3 and am going to have it shipped to a US address.
My question would be is there any difference between the US and Canadian Kindles and though I am in Canada and the Kindle (I assume) will be registered in the US, will I be able to purchase books normally?

Thanks for any help

Is it the wi-fi only version? If so, probably no difference, but if it is the 3G version, it probably won't work correctly. I think they put different SIM cards in the ones for different countries, due to different cellular providers.

Are you trying to keep it registered as a US Kindle to avoid geographic restrictions on books? If not, then there is no reason not to use your real address.

It is just the WiFi version.

geographic restrictions for sure as well as I have been using a Sony reader for the last few years and am always being restricted in my selection. The price is cheaper as well with free shipping.

so would that be correct then that the wifi Kindle would work just the same in Canada even though it would be shipped and registered to a US address?

The K3 WiFi is the same model everywhere.

There are two different models of the K3 3G+WiFi. One has an AT&T SIM card and the other has a Vodafone SIM card. Apart from that, they're exactly the same. The US + Canada (and some other countries) get the same K3 3G+WiFi that has the AT&T SIM card.

What determines what books or apps are available is where your Amazon account is registered to and not the Kindle itself.

So just to be sure, if I order the Kindle 3 from Amazon and have it shipped to the address that is use to pick things up in the U.S. I wont have any trouble with the unit itself as far as downloading books from Amazon.com?
Thanks for any help.

Have fun!

I'm not sure what wireless the 3G Kindles in Canada use. I've taken my K3 w/ 3G up into Vancouver and not had any problems, but I think ATT has good coverage there.

Ordering it and having it delivered to the US does not mean you will be able to buy books from the US Amazon store. That depends on the address you have attached to your account and your computers IP address.
