Teas that I usually buy are between £2.50-5.50. So, 11 euros is about £9? A bit too steep for standard teas. Even Sencha that I bought was only £7.50.
Although. as I said. London is going to change this approach

Off to bed with Lapacho
Goodnight all!

I wonder how teas are priced?
Mariage Frères must think their teas are made from gold.
Lipton's knows what their tea is worth.
Good Assams tend to cost more than good Keemuns.
Estate first flush tippy Darjeelings require hand picking so might be worth their cost. .It's a shame I don't like them. They are great snob teas. As in; "Well, you know daahling, I was enjoying a fresh cup of Makaibari's Silver Tips Imperial Darjeeling. Their estate always holds the record for the most expensive tea... $40 for 100g, but oh, soooo worth it, don't you think!"

Then the tea importers, tea blenders, tea retailers, supermarkets, etc., all have to make their profits. I wonder how they compute the prices? What sort of mark-up do they use on tea?

Thomas Lipton, who in the 1870's owned shops throughout England, 70 alone in London, was the first to buy several tea gardens in Ceylon and sell the tea directly without the use of brokers, shipping agents, the OstindiaCompany or other inbetweens in his shops. This way he was able to be considerably cheaper than all the other companies and clever advertising soon made his name a synomym for tea. retranslated and abbrevated from: Tea by Jane Pettigrew who is a tremendous fan of Mariage frere btw

The Windsor Castle OP is a broken and definately not the best out there and far overpriced for the quality but it is my Moms favourite brand. So there is no discussion.

Mariage Freres is expensive, too expensive by far but nonetheless are their teas superior and their blends and flavoured teas are awesome. In this they end up being worth the price. I rarely spend there for myself but they make wonderful presents.

And then there is KingsTeaGarden... a complicated guy with rules and his own blends. Very good ones that is. He used to have a bigger more elegant shop 20 years ago with a tearoom upstairs but as he is bound to argue with the costumers as how to brew tea or which teaware to use, the shop now is way smaller.

kingsteagarden
He even wrote a book about teas.

You are fortunate to live outside the US, with respects to Lipton tea. You are able to purchase Lipton Yellow Label tea, which is drinkable. The Lipton's tea available to people inside the US is Lipton's regular blend, which is vile...

... but doesn't tell us what kind of tea it is, only the size of its leaves.

I'll drink to that! I love going into their shops to sniff, but usually don't buy.

I'm having a nice mug of Fortnum & Mason's Ceylon tea to start the afternoon off right!

I drink plain rooibos of high quality (that is what my pusher calls it), loose leafs. It does not taste much. But it leaves a very pleasant mouth and it makes good company. I drink it cold even, and in hot weather I take it with me instead of the usual plastic water bottles.

In the office it is a very healthy substitute of coffee, that, good and stimulating as it may be, at the end of a "long" working day can give me the shakes and maybe worst. So, my friendly exhortation is : drink your rooibos plain, and get flavors from the herbal tea's.
ciao, beppe. niquilnamiqui (Mi ricorderò), grazie.

I agree with him. Rooibos with flavours are different. I ordered a sample pack a few months ago. About 12 samples of rooibos+flavour. My verdict - straight rooibos only.
Then again, apparently I am like that with all teas. Black, green. Only straight teas.
I have tried another flavored one and still do not like it. So maybe you both are correct and I will like the straight plain tea. Thank you both.

Thank you, yes. I did try another she said was not so strong, but I still did not like it. I think I take the advise of beppe and astra and try the plain ones.

Keemun (2 minutes) for a breakfast of 1 rye bread slice and 1 banana. At the desk, reading dream's post and admiring her avatar. Nice way to start.

Good choice! I too am drinking keemun right now.
(I tried to give karma for keemun but I'm over my limit to you right now, according to this machine!)

I found an old tin of Twining's 'Prince of Wales' tea. This is a blended keemun, and was the tea that got me started enjoying better teas. As I discovered other tea merchants, I found better keemuns, but every now and then I like to go back to the Prince Of Wales. It has good flavor, is very smooth, but the taste doesn't last. There is no tea aftertaste with it. Once you swallow it's gone.

It's nice for memories.

This is why I said it is not to be discussed because there is no description on the tin. This is a Twinings knock-off even their packaging is similar, orange tins instead of yellow ones. Mom loves it. Period.

As for the Kusmis

I bought the 250g tins that are 17.80€ which boils down to 7.12€ per 100g and 6GBP.

Just having a morning pot of Russian Breakfast. Extremely strong brewed with milk and sugar. Life is good!
