I haven't noticed that specific issue, but I do notice that Calibre has been quite crashy since I downloaded and installed the 7.44 update. It usually, but not always, happens when manipulating metadata.

In order to debug this, I'm going to need some set of steps that can reliably produce a crash, without that, I'd just be flailing in the dark. I've tried trimming covers editing random metadata, pressing next, previous, ok all on windows 7 x64 and calibre refuses to crash for me.

The only change I can think of in 0.7.44 that could remotely have any bearing on this is the implementation of a new completion popup when editing authors/series/publisher/tags. But I tried editing all of them and I still can't make it crash.

Have you disabled Virus Checker from checking your library folder, that may help.

can't finish - get list of books on device

Hi ! Win XP SP3 RU Calible 0.7.44 1GB Ram Intel Celeron 1,6 Ghz comp antivirus switch off before to start Calibre, C: has about 50 Gb free space, Calibre files located to D:\Lib.Calibre and D: has about 100Gb free. Calibre collection about 6000 authors and 22000 books ( about 50 000 folders and files in sub-directories), "author_sort" = 'copy', author folder name like <surname_ name ...>

Question is - job "get list of books on device" doing about 120 mins, system swap file increased start from 1,18Gb (job progress 8%) up to 1,82 (job progress 45%) and 2,53Gb (job progress 94%) and finally can't finish 99% crash - "Microsoft Runtime error..."

any advice ? 2 hours to get list of books seems something wrong...

That was a large part of what I was doing. I spent about 5-6 hours adding books to my library, downloading metadata and covers, etc. I didn't do any editing of covers or anything of that nature, just adding and editing meta tags and converting RTF, PDF, and LIT files to EPUB, another operation that seemed to cause crashes. I had about 10-15 crashes over the entire session. It's only noteworthy in that, doing the same things, before 7.44 I've had maybe one crash in all the time I've been using Calibre.

BTW, it's *fantastic* work you're doing. Thank you.

Sounds a little long (for a 'first time' fetch'), but it depends on a number of other factors: Number of books on device,USB mode, Processor load (Celeron is not a power house processor) and what else Calibre is doing. Did the initial 'backup metadata" process ever finish (this does about 1 book every 3 seconds) ?

Hmm it sounds like there might be a memory leak. Can you keep an eye on the memory usage of calibre as you use it.

@ViktorShchedrin: WHat format are the books on your device, what operating system and how many books on your device?

I too am experiencing this issue. I am using Windows 7 HP on a 64bit system. All I am doing is scrolling through books updating covers either through downloading or the browse option to select a cover which is on my hard drive.
