It would still be good if you could post the pictures of the inside of the case so your mods show. Also, a picture of your 650 in the case will give us all a better idea of the fit. Lastly, after you "squashed" the cover to make it thinner for the PRS-650, how much distance was there from the left edge of the reader to the spine of the cover?

I have a Large Journal and really like it (I use the Rhodia webnotebooks with it). Now I would like to have a cover for my PRS-650, but I am hesitant to give up my Sony lighted cover. I'd sure like to find a way to have the light and Sony mount built into a nicer case.

The cover is none too large. Before it was squashed, there wasn't any margin at all. Post-squashing, with the cover wrapped tightly around the spine of the reader, there's about 3/16" of leather sticking out past the edges of the reader.

I originally planned to cover the inside of the cover, with something like ultrasuede, to give it a neat finish while protecting the reader from being scratched by the washers. But the washers don't touch anything but the skin, and with the skin to protect the reader I'm OK with them touching.

Here are photos:

The Oberon covers are just beautiful. I wish they made them for the 350, I'd definitely order one.

Looks nice, that is the same decal as I have on my 650. When I saw the pictures, it caught me right away, lol. I love my decal way more than I expected as I didn't mind the black reader before but it really is nice.

Dear All,

Hereby an other alternative. It's the first generation Sony PRS 650 case. It's somewhat too high but your ereader will be fastened very secure. The price is 15,50 euro including shipping costs. Colors: Black, White, Purple, Red.

Same here - the light's excellent, but the Sony case is not nice at all.

It's crossed my mind to see if a bookbinder would produce some kind of slip-cover, but procrastination won out over curiosity.

Thanks for putting up the pictures. The finished product with the eReader mounted looks really good. I think the ultrasuede would have been a mistake. Over time you would have gotten uneven wear marks in it from the high points of the reader and buttons. The leather should wear better. Also, now you have a small pocket for stashing business cards and/or slips of paper.

Karma for you!

Found a new cover...

Just purchased two covers for the wife's and my PRS-650's from ebay the end of last week after an exhaustive web/local store search. The wife's cover just arrived yesterday, and the reader fits perfectly. The flap that covers the screen is stiff, which was a requirement for us as we want to protect the screen from breakage --well minimize the chance anyway. Best of all, didn't have to pay ~$45-$50, only about $16 including shipping.

The seller seems to have a good supply of these, and just started selling them. Have a look.
This is to a current open auction for the same ones I purchased for reference:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Black-Leather-Co...item3cb4f9cdc8

Here's the ebay search I used for PRS-650 case covers:
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories

Although my wife has only had it since last evening, she really likes it. Still waiting for mine to arrive.

BTW, I have NO association to the seller what-so-ever other than I purchased two of these cases from him/her.

I checked the site/picture. Does the reader "slip" down from the top? I could not see how the reader is secured in the case on the top end. And, does that mean it might slip out of the case if I happen to be carrying it in one hand and dangle the case with reader in it upside down?

Yes and yes. Good point, missed that part when I was checking it out. Slipping out the top is the only possibility as it is otherwise contained on the other three sides. It's held in snugly for now, but as I'm sure you know leather tends to stretch over time/use.
Hmmm, will have to see what I can come up with to secure the top. Thanks for pointing that out BEFORE it was a problem!

Still, I'm happy with the case and especially the price. If anyone has any suggestions to resolve the top issue, please chime in. (Hot glue and/or duct tape are probably not an option, aesthetically speaking.)

The adhesive-backed velcro I used to hold my reader in the Oberon cover would probably work well for this too. Just a small square of it, anywhere on the back of the reader, should do the trick.

Is it so much of a problem if it can slip out the top? Are there any covers that dont have a space at the top? I'm wondering how you get the reader in between the covers in the first place.

I used regular (not "industrial") velcro pieces near each corner, using duct tape as a buffer on both the unit's back and the cover itself. The reader is in so securely I've had to use a fair amount of force the few times I've needed to remove it from the cover.

Well done, Sea, this is the first Oberon on Sony cover that I really like! Normally the cheap looking straps at the four corners of the device annoy me.

I got this one for m 650:

http://www.amazon.com/igadgitz-Genui...8253639&sr=8-1

I like that it has a stand to sit up when reading while I am eating. This one only has one angle, but I prefer a side flip cover, versus a bottom flip one like the one that has adjustable angle:

http://www.amazon.com/igadgitz-Genui...8253639&sr=8-2

It fits well and all the controls and memory card slots and jacks are accessible in the case. The cover has a pocket for a memory card, and it has a space for a stylus.

Only thing is, with the case being new, it seems to not want to be fully seated to the right. But that is a VERY minor issue. It will be interesting to see how it is over time.
