Amazon should be showing the K3 with a cover and never ever should they show a K3 in any sort of pocket. Pocket's are bad. Going without a cover is bad. Amazon showing it's OK to have no cover and put the K3 in a back pocket is bad.

Amazon is giving bad advice through this commercial.

And it's not just the K3. No eink device should be without a cover or put in a pocket.
YES!! I can see a class action on behalf of everyone who has a cracked screen (the most common cause for an ereader to go bad, I believe). Like that tire commercial where the granny throws the tire through the window - if you could do it, they would have a hard time holding you liable!

When you watch a car commercial in the US you sometimes see "Professional stunt driver. Do not attempt." flashing on the screen. Perhaps soon we will see "Professional Kindle Stunt Reader. Do not attempt."

Do you have one of those ammo straps modified for it? A very good idea for those that don't carry purses.

I wouldn't use my back pocket either but the rest of the ad seemed ok. Of course I've been told that I abuse my tablet PC as well and its 6 years old and doing fine. Besides the ad strikes me as the Kindle version of many car ads; you can tell your experience won't be quite the same as shown on the ad!

One of my patients just got a K3 and he carries it in his coat pocket. Fits fine.

Here is someone who had a Kobo in his pocket and now the screen is shattered.

Reading all the accounts of people getting food on their Kindle... I just wanted to mention that one of the HUGE benefits of Amazon's lighted cover is that it's possible to prop your Kindle in front of you while eating something messy.

I was recently in a restaurant eating won ton soup... had the Kindle propped upright and open in front of me, and didn't get a drop on it.

See, there is at least one advantage to having a super-sturdy (if somewhat heavy) Kindle cover...

I take it you read with your face well back from the surface you're reading.
Some of us are most comfortable with our eyeballs less than ten inches from what we read.

hmmmm...I wonder if using your Kindle as a "strap-on" or a "bondage" accessory voids the warranty!!!???

Heh, my face was well back, yes.

Mind you, I'd also enlarged the print just a tad so that proximity wouldn't be an issue... *is desperately nearsighted*

Humbug. Over the course of a deployment to Afghanistan my Kindle was carried in shirt pockets, pants pockets, rucksacks, LBV's, was involved in more than one IED blast and remains unscathed, if a little dirty and worn...

It has never been in a cover and having returned to Canada, I continue to carry it, almost daily, in my shirt pocket. I am actually kind of surprised by its durability because upon first sight it sure doesn't leave that impression...
