I am trying to get rid of the taste of a tea my boss shared with me. A Celestial Seasonings rooibos mix of something. It was horrible, and I had to be polite and finish it. Good morning, everyone! And welcome, Fruiter! Drink tea and prosper. (Vulcans will forgive me.) It's almost like Spring outside this morning. Second day in a row. Punxsutawney Phil said Spring would come early this year, but this is crazy! Oh well, I won't complain. It means I can ride without needing overpants and neck gaitor.

Starting the morning with a cup of Taylor's of Harrogate's 'Yorkshire Tea!' It really does give a wake-up call! Baked some fresh biscuits to go along with them. Nice way to begin a Friday!

Is it branded? Or from a particular source? I love the Keemun I get from McNultey's, but the unbranded bulk stuff I got from the Chinese import shop is just as good and less than half the price.

Where do you live? There are plenty of online stores that ship internationally. I like http://mcnultys.com/ myself, but they are more for the black tea drinker. You seem to prefer the flavored teas and those can be ordered from http://www.teavana.com/ or http://www.englishteastore.com/

http://www.imperialteagarden.com/ and many, many more. Just do a web search for 'tea stores' and you'll find plenty. Many of the folks here drink flavored teas and can be a great help to you in selecting the better brands.

The names are generic, just like Assam and Keemun, so without actually tasting 'those' particular ones, have no idea other than to say that I usually like teas that come out of the Yunnan region. But that's just a generality at best. Sorry I can't offer more reliable information.

I just read about Japanese green tea - Gyokuro. So far, prohibiting price...

There is a tea plantation along a very narrow mountain road that we like to ride. Every year they cover their early Spring bushes with black netting to cut down on the sun to produce gyokuro. Also seen in small back yard tea gardens where the farmers want to get the most money for space. It's common to see side lots and large yards covered with the black mesh. It's much too expensive to do this to the large hillside plantations. When the nets go up, I'll see if I can get some photos of it. When I first saw it I thought the farmers were trying to protect the new buds from birds, but latter learned the real reason behind all the extra work.

I think it's the diversity, but coupled with intensity, that makes this such an interesting group. We all have our own niche!

... which now takes me to my second cup. I think I'll have some of that unbranded keemun. It really is pretty good. I finished all the biscuits.

Some delightful "Four Seasons" High Mountain Oolong that I just received by mail order a couple days ago. Very nice flavour, but I find myself almost wishing it had just a wee bit more body. In the brewing - amazing how what starts out as a dried up / rolled up bean-like bud can unfold while brewing and become such a substantial bunch of leaves in the small clay pot.

I mentioned something to Chris (he's the chocoholic around here) about chocolate flavored teas and he wasn't impressed by the idea, LOL.

Oops, sorry. Seriously though, I had a really hard time finishing the cup. Thank you for letting me know that they are not all like that. Maybe, I will try another kind. More plain and not flavored?

Yep, because I bet what you had was called something-or-other chai, right? The others don't have all the cinnamon and ginger and stuff, so they taste totally different. I think you should definitely try another one!

I'm with Betty... I'm going to try rooibos soon, but no chai anything for me. I don't even do blends that say "spice" after I got hold of the orange one that tasted like pepper.

Speaking of flavors though, does anyone know of a really strongly flavored apple black tea? I mean strong apple flavor, not strong tea flavor.

Try adding a bit of apple juice to a Ceylon tea. Or even a slice of fresh apple. Back in the day, I used to put an apple slice into my pipe tobacco. It gave just a hint of apple flavor to the smoke.

Hmmm.... could you maybe heat apple juice and steep the tea using that instead of water?

Shel, you can do anything you can imagine.
Use apple juice instead of water.
Add sliced apple to the hot tea.
Add sliced apple to the tin of dry tea. (Use small amounts of tea as it will hydrate and could turn moldy.)
Add some apple flavoring from the baking dept of the supermarket.
Or peach, or vanilla, or almond, or rum, or chocolate, or mint, or salmon.

We are only limited by our own imaginations.

Good point. I think I'm going to try half water/half apple juice with the (supposedly) apple flavored tea I got from Adagio that had no flavor at all.
