It depends on how badly I want to read it. There is only one book so far that is not in ebook format and I have decided to wait. I have enough books to read right now.

I have a library card and I'm not afraid to use it.
That said, I'm lucky enough to live in an area with several generally well-stocked library systems as well as fairly decent new and used bookshops and have no physical difficulties reading paper books. |

As to the original question, it depends on the book. If it's something I really want to read - say, I know other books by that author and liked them - I'll buy a paper copy. And if amazon happens to have a used copy which with added shipping costs less than the new copy, I'll get it used. If it's a book more on the lines of "I've heard of it and it might be interesting", I'd just look for something else. Getting rid of books is a hassle (since not everyone here who reads reads English novels...), so I don't want to buy books that will take up shelf-space unless I'm resonably certain I'll want to re-read them. (Library loans are not a terribly attractive option for most books I hear of, since I'm fed up with poor translations, and the library here naturally doesn't stock terribly many current English language books.) |

I still prefer software manuals and other technical stuff in p book versions. Hoping that will change when I eventually buy a tablet.
I wont read fiction on p book. If it not available as an ebook or is geographically restricted then I will not read it. There are lots of books available. If you make it difficult for me I will just move on to something else. |

This tread reminds me of similar discussions at my rangefinderforum, where the merits of film over digital cameras are swatted about until some noses are bloodied or eyes blackened.
I'll say here what I say there: there's room for both in my life, there should be room for both on this planet. Each side had good points on the benefits of their preferred mode. Should a book not be available for my reader-app, I click the button on Amazon, or B&N, saying I'd like the publisher to know that I would have bought that version of e-book, had it been available. Then I go off and hunt down a decent used copy of the print book I want. If there's no "very good" copy available, I'll buy new. |

Ah. Well, I seach a book on Amazon's website, look for available editions. If there is no Kindle edition, then there will be a "button" to "tell the publisher" you'd like a version in kindle. (see my last search and request here: http://www.amazon.com/Raymond-Carver...6739274&sr=1-1 )
Directly under the images, on the left side of the web page is a box with the Kindle request. Try it. Maybe Library of America will start e-publishing. They have a fantastic selection of quality compilations of literature "stars." |

Yep. Nothing like injecting a pre-emptive mention to draw attention to it.
![]() ------- For books that have no ebook equivalent, I simply buy the paper version of it. (which seems to be about every book that I'm interested in reading AFTER getting a few ereader devices) But as I consider the old books that I have stored in boxes, I am thinking about scanning them in. |

hmm, seems like a business oportunity. Buy the rights to re-sell a book, scan it and sell in electronic form.

If I really wanted to read it, I guess I would read it.
The problem comes about after I read it. What do I do with the book? My house is already full. |
