I finally thought of sending in the bill for my new glasses to my health insurer. Don't know if I will get it back or if it's under the limit of the amount I have to pay myself. I would like to get it back but I won't be too bothered if I won't because instead of having to pay over €200 for my glasses (I need extra thin lenses) I paid €72 because I got a subscription with which I have to pay €3 a month for two years and then I can go pick out new glasses.

last time I did a fasting test, they took 8 vials of blood which is actually a vile or two over a blood donation. I was sent home to take a nap (good thing I didn't live any further than I did) and had to come back in and have 2 more taken. the needles don't bother me though. I had my 4 litre donation card in Germany and have had a few gallon cards here

I'm due to give blood next Wednesday. It'll be my 45th donation. Over five US gallons in total!

One word: HYDRATE. A nurse in the surgical unit told me years ago that if you hydrate well the day before and drink a nice big glass of water the night before you're having an iv put in (say at midnight if your orders are "nothing by mouth after midnight." It will maximize the plumpness of your veins and make it ever so much easier for them to find the vein. And of course, for most blood tests, you just can't eat for x number of hours before, but drinking water is fine. It really does help. I have to have blood drawn every three months, but the lab tech at my doctor's office is so skilled that I usually don't even feel it at all. I'd rather have blood drawn from a vein than have a shot.

I've tried donating a couple of times, but they wouldn't let me because my blood pressure was too low.

All right, I'm off to see the doctor too. I'm pretty sure I have the stomach flu. Oh man, I hate doctors. But it's either the doctor or going to work tomorrow, and I don't think I'll be of any use at work. Did I say how much I hate doctors ? Urgh

I just read the last couple of pages and had to verify what topic I am reading. Sounds like BDSM.
For the life of me I won't understand people who self inflict pain for no other reason but beauty. Our body is such a precious thing. It is so easy to damage it. We should treasure it. Although, I think we understand it only after it fails us, but usually it is too late to worry.

No, he needs more practice, he says. He was on the train today.

Mine's more a passing carnival, with stringy and fatty and sickly meat products propping up the bottom end, a distinctly scary house of horror in the middle, suspiciously creaky and rusty rides towards a top end dominated by a most disturbing freak show of misery and madness MC'ed by a character of an oily kind of niceness and sparkle that makes one think of a hidden stiletto and sadomasochistic tendencies.

But there is fairy floss. Oh, the fairy floss! STEP RIGHT UP!...

Cheers,
Carny-Marc

Safely back from having the blood drawn. Easy Peasy! it was the lady who lives across the road. I turned up early and stood outside with a pile of other people, who promptly went into the medical centre when it opened, leavin me the only starving blood person to go in! yay! She was very good although it took a long time to get a vein to show up. she looked at my hands which have very good veins, but in the end all was OK. She used a syringe to take it all out at once, and then filled up the tubes after which I am glad of because the old changy the vial thing is what hurts and stops the flow. Not a mark or bruise or anything! I am so happy.

I'm happy to hear that you survived, and survived in style! Having blood drawn is almost as bad, emotionally, as going to the dentist. Unfortunately they don't give general anesthesia for either procedure. I did find that having a sweet young girl hold my hand helped immeasurably. Perhaps we need to find you a boy-toy for your next visit.
