I don't want either; I want 16:10, and with the onslaught of 16:9 "for proper high-def viewing" they're getting harder to find, at least at a decent price.

I'm planning a trip to my piercer tomorrow, but I'll have to leave work early to get there before closing time.
The sizes of the threads used for the ball-ends are pretty standardized; you can generally get replacements without too much work. I see more tragus hoops than barbells; if I was to get one that's what it would be if only for a fear of having one of the balls go into my ear canal. Also that's more of a feminine thing; I have both my ears, my nose, and eyebrow and can't really see doing anything else; then again I started in 1985 so some of my piercings are actually older than some people who do it for a living.

It hurt a lot less than my belly-button piercing (long gone, now) had hurt; I had expected it to hurt a more than that. My belly-button piercing never healed properly, and my body started to reject it after 4 or 5 years so I had to take it out, despite me cleaning it 3 times a day during those 4 or 5 years! It took my tragus a long time to heal, too, maybe a year (I might be remembering that incorrectly, though). No more piercings for me!

Really? I always thought that tragus piercings looked good on men. I wasn't aware that they had a feminine connotation.

I know a guy who had a nipple ring. It sends chills down my spine to even think of it. I'd be afraid of catching it on something and ripping the ring out. Same for earrings.

Sorry, should have added "...in the U.S." Here, it's based on subculture. For instance, men who are into extreme heavy metal music now pierce their septums (septa?) Nose piercings started out being a feature of hip-hop-oriented females in the '80s, then rock-oriented white males in the '90s, then females in this decade.

Nipple ring = too many nerve endings.

I did the upper cartilage of my right ear when I was....oh hell, maybe 18? Cartilage is meant to take more abuse; that said, if it's done wrong it can cause damage that renders the cartilage unable to retain its shape (which defeats the whole purpose). Both my ears still have the same shape they've always had save for a small "dent" where I pierced one too close to the edge.

It hurts less for my, but my lobes were pierced with a gun (blunt earring shot through) and my tragus was pierced with a needle. I did hear a crunching sound when the needle went through the cartilage. It got swollen the 2nd and 3rd day which is normal for me. After that I had to think of not holding my phone to that ear and sleeping on my other side.

After about a couple of years I changed the ball closure ring to a smooth segment ring. A couple of years ago I put a labret (mostly used for nose piercings) in, mainly because I use in-ear earphones so a normal barbell wouldn't work. First I used a bioplast one, on which you put a ball/stud on a "stick" in. But I changed it to a normal metal one because I kept pulling out the stud because my hair wound around it. Haven't lost the ball yet, it doesn't even seem to unscrew.

This guy used to have a bone in his nose! He has passed away now I was there the day he died. He was one of only two I knew that had the traditional nose piercing.

You guys are a lot braver than me... Just the 'thought' of having a hold drilled into my body hurts! Back in my early 30's I almost got a gold loop for my ear, but decided that a motorcycle helmet would press against it and cause even more pain. I don't do pain. A few years ago my son wanted us to get matching tattoos but I opted out of that as well. I mean, that's like a LOT of holes getting drilled into my body, right?

I suggested a nice ring. Perhaps a pendant. They don't hurt so much.
He called me a wuss. He's right.

It is a sin against god to desecrate your body with tattoos and piercings.

If your skin is of the temperament to get a sunburn, then you already know what a tattoo feels like. There are certain body parts where it will hurt considerably more depending on nerve endings and such but in "conventional" places like arms, legs etc., it's a localized burning. You treat it with antibiotic ointment for 2 or 3 days and you forget the pain (unless someone pokes you there before it's done healing!)

The biggest problem anymore with getting inked isn't the pain of the needle but the pain of the pricetag.

Right now I'm wishing people would take a break from posting to the What Are You Listening to Right Now? thread. I just finished page 373 and could swear another 2 pages were posted while I finished that page. At this rate I'll never catch up! I'm 10 pages behind!

Hhhmmmm..... I don't think you understand the problem. You see, most folks have what we call a "Pain Threshold." Not me. I begin a LOT further down the scale with what is called a "Discomfort Index."

Pictures of tattoos hurt. I can only imagine (which hurts too) the actuality.

Don't worry, Stitchawl, I feel the same way you do about it. I love artistic tattoos and think they look great on other people. I'm way too much of a wuss to get one myself.
