I would say that they should be sent to Death Valley in the summertime to practice. They can also feed the big birds.

WAIT A MINUTE! I DON'T LIKE BIRDS!!!

In the closing days of WWII the Nazis were destroying everything that they thought might not look so good. There were a series of movie shorts (three, possibly four) made to educate the public on the reasons to "assist" those unfortunates who were burdened with life. I saw one of the films that survived. It, of course, started with those with mental developmental problems (now called mentally handicapped) and progressed to those with mental illness (including homosexuals I think). The movie short ended with those who have grown too old and suffer too much to keep living.

It was presented as a professor talking to collage students in a classroom setting on compassion for those suffering a life that no normal person would choose to live.

In a world of increasing demands on dwindling resources (sometimes contrived), we may see something like that again. I hope to be long dead before that time. But if you should see a compassionate person on TV explaining why we must make hard choices....

Gentle people, as much as we all care for all of our loved ones, the time has come to make some hard choices. Consider the plight of the unfortunate amongst us who lie awake at night worrying unnecessarily about Death Panels. To bring an end to their needless suffering, I am calling for the formation of a Death Panel Commission which will help terminate those who fear Death Panels. Now I am sure you will all agree with me that this is a necessary and humane act of kindness and I hope you will support this measure.

This week's winter storm could be one for record books

"The storm will likely extend from Oklahoma City to Caribou, Maine, by late week, said CNN meteorologist Dave Hennen."

I'm REALY getting worried. My wife is trying to get me to sign some kind of legal paperwork but she won’t let me read it. I think that it's another life insurance form.

On top of that I heard her talking to a friend about the "Great vacation" she has planed for "after it's all over".

What'll I do! Oh, what will I do!!! Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean that the world isn't out to get me!

You can come shovel my driveway... LOL! I'm right in the big middle of the "heavy snow band".

Yep, tons of snow so far. My wife actually wanted to call a plow, but it only took me the afternoon to shovel out the driveway. (We live on a steep hill, so at the first forecast of snow we move our cars up to the street and park curbside. On the other hand, we live at the end of a long dead end, and the town snow plow usually doesn't get to us until a day or two after the snow.)

Really, I have about $1500 of exercise equipment in the basement -- it's seems foolish not to get some exercise outside! Just make sure the MP3 player is charged up!

EDIT: But the forecast for our neighborhood Tuesday and Wednesday is mostly for freezing rain, so there won't be much snow to shovel this time around!

"Just make sure the MP3 player is charged up!"

That does help. I use mine to listen to audiobooks while I shovel. It takes my mind off how much snow I'm shoveling.

For the forth time in less than 24 hours I've been shoveling snow. You have to do it BY LAW! A couple of people in this area have been fined over $1000 for not shoveling!

And they well know that a number of people will have heart attacks and die. They just don't care! In fact it's so common that it rarely gets a mention in the newspapers or on TV.

Stop the carnage now!
I never knew it snowed on Trantor, I thought it was completely roofed over?

Not that we shovel, even if we had snow. We found out last year that has 0 effect if we shovel the walkway. We did it once. Then the professional shoveler passed by to clear the road. And threw everything on our walkway again

I have lived in towns where people were ticketed for not shoveling sidewalks. I think that my homeowners association can fine people for not shoveling sidewalks in our area.

I don't have a problem with the idea of the fine. We have an elementary school one half mile from our house so the kids walk to school. The sidewalks need to be clear for them.

We have gotten lucky this year. One of our neighbors has a snow blower and has done our sidewalk when we had snow. It has been great.

I have been surprised at the lack of teenage greed in my neighborhood. I have not seen any kids out trying to earn extra cash by shoveling.

Curious. Kids here don't mow lawns or deliver newspapers either. Adults do it all. Are kids too expensive? Too smart? Too busy? What?

Wow! It must really suck living in the "Trantor, Galactic Center"

What an oppressive government, you should move to Somalia they haven't had a government in 20 years to bother them with petty regulations like this.

And you get to be a Pirate, arggggggghh!

Good luck
Bon Voyage

Trantor has some reclaimed areas where people are farming. But they have an expensive secret society that's reshaping the future. They'll do anything they can to get more money. Some of that money comes from death taxes. You pay taxes when you earn it and they tax you again on the money when you leave it to others.

On the contrary they don't tax "you" at all when you die cause your dead. It becomes income to your heirs (which they did nothing to actually earn) and is therefore taxed as income. It is intended to limit dynastic wealth and so the first $5 million dollars now (2011) is excluded. So, it doesn't apply to working people at all mostly just the top 1%, you know like the Waltons, Carnegies, Rothchilds, etc.

So now, why should we feel sorry for them having to pay some taxes on money they got without doing anything to earn?

And to correct you it is not "your" money it was created "Of the people, By the people, For the people". The money belongs to the game that was created on July 4th 1776, and if you want to play you have to pay.

If you don't want to pay taxes, don't play the game.

Somalia doesn't have taxes and you get to have an AK47 and all the ammo you can carry.
