Features I'd like to see in Calibre.../Things I'd like to be able to do
Which I've been using now for several months and liking very much. Plus it works very nicely with my Dell Streak.
**Some kind of grep-like search that would allow in-text searches in the Library. Granted, my use may be unusual - I have a very large fic library that's categorised by fandom through WExplorer- not Calibre's library. This means if I want to read a particular fic in a specific fandom, and I can only remember a certain line or phrase, I can find the fic very quickly using Agent Ransack/Searchmonkey and telling it to search within the fandom folder only. The search is both much, MUCH slower and much less precise when I tell it to use the Library; sometimes the results are simply too numerous to be helpful. Being able to do some kind of grep search within files marked with a certain tag, for example, from within Calibre itself would be brilliant - I could get rid of my duplicate 'Fanfic' folder and save some disk space! **I'd like to be able to disable the built in e-reader altogether. Even though I've done the hack to allow me to open FB2 files in FBReader, for example, I sometimes forget to use it. My experience with the built in reader has not been great; it's been slow and crashprone, and a couple of times it's taken my computer down with it. **I've said this before, but I'd so, SO like to be able to get an exact reading of my file sizes. In terms of reading time, there's a big difference between a file that's 10kb and one that's 99kb, but Calibre presents them both as being 0.0MB, which is singularly unhelpful. I'd like to see either exact file sizes, or rounding up to the nearest ten, if that's possible; e.g., 15kb as 0.02. Ideally, I'd like to be able to switch between seeing files in MB/kb. I'd like to have the choice. *This is probably hopelessly optimistic, but I'd love to be able to preview a file from within the explorer on Calibre, using a similar system to Windows Explorer's preview pane. But honestly? These are my only niggles with the software, and really, some can't even be called that. I can't express how much I love tagging especially. It's transformed my fic experience, even though I've only got one fandom thoroughly tagged. MS was stupid in not allowing tagging of text files and so on from within the Document library for Vista/Seven, I think. Thanks to the developers for doing such a great job! |
