With a flat tax they would (I'm talking a % of income) -- maybe we're thinking of flat tax differently. (and corporations would pay the most as they are people too).

Well, flat tax, in my vocabulary is exactly XY% for everyone. With possible exception where there is some minimal constant that you subtract from an income and then you compute, let's say, 30% of income as tax.
Opposed to flat tax, is progressive tax, where the more you earn, the bigger cut (number with % at the end) they take.
You earn 12000 per year, you pay 40% of that, you earn 50000 per year, you pay 50% of that.

What you call flat tax, is in fact a constant payment, like a road tax, or "municipal trash removal" tax - a constant sum per head. Period.

that would solve SO many problems in this country!

Taxes are a community effort, Sweetpea. There are more poor people in the world so if you spread all the taxes on all of those shoulders it'll be much easier. That's the best way of doing things.

Now just how do I get it off my shoulders. Hmmmm

I've said it before: I wish I paid the most taxes!

(Because it means I would have the highest income. )

I resteep tea and bring lunch to work 4 days a week. I try and buy my lunches on sale, I use the frozen lunches and a think of frozen veggies. My lunch normally works out to about $4.50 a day. We eat a decent amount of left overs during the week. The Hubby normally cooks a couple of bigger meals on the weekend and those become dinner.

We are not exactly the most frugal bunch.

We probably are pretty frugal, but I've never really thought about it until I started reading this thread. Short showers, don't leave the water running while we brush our teeth, lots of cooking to have leftovers, keep the thermostat low during the day and lower at night (we only raise it to get the bathroom warm enough to shower). Room for improvement, of course... we still eat fast food about once a week, and I don't walk to the store as much as I could (and should).

4.50 for a frozen lunch! Too much! You've got to google coupons for those then stack that when they go on sale! The most I buy for frozen meals is those yummy Lean Cuisine Market Creations (the ones in the bag), and they're around $4 (but I try to only buy them on sale). I pair that with a piece of garlic bread which I toast at work in our toaster oven if I want a big lunch.

If you're a carbaholic like me, frozen garlic bread is awesome. I buy french bread, cut it in three parts then split those in half, then put on some spreadable butter and garlic bread sprinkle, wrap them individually in aluminum foil and put them in the freezer. No need to even defrost, just stick it in the oven for a few minutes.

I do like these "steamable" frozen vegetables. I've never eaten so much cauliflower in my life. Pricey for what you get. But so convenient.

Cutting coupons like never before. Especially when the store doubles them.
