Haven't you heard? Ebook readers are great sources of new and innovative pickup lines, such as:

- Would you like a nook?

- I love amazons, and not just for ebooks (wink)

Well. The only question I've been asked about my Sony is: "is that your phone?"

I have been an avid reader all my life. I find the e-book format amazingly convenient. I just recently received a Kindle 3 and I love it! It is very easy on the eyes. The iPad with its admittedly beautiful screen seems to create more eyestrain {at least for me}.

I can carry a huge library with me on the Kindle and its long battery life means it's ideal for holiday trips. At the moment, I have mainly science-fiction, fantasy, and some classics on it. I would recommend the Science-fiction Bookshelf in Project Gutenberg as well worth browsing--particularly as it supports Kindle with images.

Agree.

Have you had any problems getting books from Ireland, at Amazon store?

I read alot - but still prefer paper books (usually obtained from the library). However, I also travel alot & can't bring enough books to cover more than a few day trip - so the ereader is perfect for that. I carry a huge library with me (in a small package) and can read whatever I feel like while traveling.

In my work, we have either a LOT to do, or periods of inactivity. I like staying active with something to read during my 'down time'.

When people ask me about it, I show them a couple of Techie books I carry around and reference in my work. (Honest!)

Generally you can tell the difference between those who think, "Wow, I can carry my entire tech library with me!" and those who think, "Only a dope would carry JUST technical books around!", and those who think, "Screw Work!"

I don't let on that I can tell the difference but I am sometimes surprised at who fall into which category!

I like reading, but I have noticed that over the last years, I have read less and less - because I prefer reading English-language authors untranslated, and there aren't really that many English-language books offered in the library, so I have to buy books. And when I've bought a book and liked it, I want to keep it to re-read it later. So, I'm running out of shelf space...

Started ereading on my Palm PDA back in the 90's for convenience while travelling. Switched to Sony PRS-505 for battery life.

I voted none of the above.

I was looking at buying a fifth bookshelf and decided to ask for an e-reader for my birthday instead of a bookshelf. It has worked out beautifully.

I thought it would be better to get an e-reader that holds a lot of books, than to get another bookcase to hold the same books. The plus is that I can take my library along with me when I travel, especially to some of the out-of-the-way places in Europe.

I am an avid reader, but issues with hands have made it difficult for me to hold a book, so this was the primary reason for an e-reader (lighter than most books).

Also it's convenient when going to appointments, hospital stays, traveling, I only need to take this along instead of a ton of books. I was the girl who would travel with 10+ lbs of books in my carry on cuz I never knew what I wanted to read, and I HAVE to go to sleep with a book...

E-reading suits my lifestyle. For instance, I've spent most of the past two years in various parts of the country and abroad, away from my home library. I still buy print books, though. I just read 'em at home.

Smile It's because I read

I bought the Rocket eBook when it first came out an eon ago. I've also been reading eBooks on electronic devices since 1998 and have thousands of eBooks from eBookstores across the Web. I got my (original) Nook because it is easier to take with me on trips, and to read at home. Frankly, now that I am over 50, I like the fact that I can increase the font for easier reading on books that cost less than the tiny printed paper or hardbacks. Also If I hate a book, I don't feel nearly as guilty for deleting it as I would throwing it away. Plus eReaders are better for the environment.

One, it allows me to carry entire series or a library of my favorite authors without having to hunt down the next volume. Plus it's virtually no weight added.

Two, It's a new gadget.... and I love gadgets.
