very slow

Dear community,
i don't know if i do something wrong or it is normal but calibre reacts very-very slowly.
winxp sp3, no programs run, the calibre software itself is on the desktop computer, library on a stick (SanDisk USB 2.0).
Till now I have 2600 books (~5GB) in the databank (i will have approximately 5x so many).
If i change one parameter of only one book (e.g. i correct the name of the author) it takes circa 10 sec. till the change is done.
Thank you for any idea/answer!
Best regards

Ten seconds is super quick compared to 6 months back. At this point, I believe, the only way to increase the response time would be to move the library to the local hard drive.

i guess it's because you are using a flash memory drive. How long does it take to replace one file or folder on the drive, outside of calibre ?

it may have to flash write a huge amount of drive just to register 1 small change.

You may want to look into getting at least a portable hard disk for your library. Flash sticks are not known for their longevity- most of them, from what I know, start failing after around 100.000 to 1.000.000 write cycles, so you may lose your library somewhere in the future.

Is the flash drive connected to the computer through a USB 2.0 connection.

Some older mobo have only 1 or 2 USB2.0 and the rest were older 1.1,
especially front panel connected ports.
