ADE went kerflooey!

I opened ADE today to return a couple of library books early, but, lo and behold, all my shelves were suddenly and inexplicably empty. The books still resided in the Digital Editions folder on my computer, so I dragged all the library books back to the "Borrowed" shelf. However, they don't want to be there--they are determined to be on the "Purchased" shelf, no matter how many times I try to move them.

On the "Purchased" shelf they do still show expiration dates, and presumably will indeed expire, but I no longer have the option to return them early. Any suggestions, short of re-downloading the books for the sole purpose of returning them (assuming they land on the "Borrowed" shelf)? Any ideas about why the books all suddenly disappeared in the first place? Thanks!

I had an ADE disappearing book problem the other day. I deintalled ADE, reinstalled ADE, reregistered at Adobe under the same ID, and redownloaded the books. Something in all of that solved whatever problem ADE had. At least temporarily, lol.

I had been reading the thread about problems with reauthorizing ADE and not being able to download at all, and since that seems like a worse problem than mine, I'm hesitant to reinstall and reregister. Everything had been working fine for several months until this sudden craziness.

And yet the people here want to give Adobe complete power over e-books.

Adobe is a cruel task master. It does sound like a clean and then reinstall might be your best bet, even though it is horribly annoying.

ADE may be the next Adobe Reader (Acrobat Reader). Or Flash!? (OH GOD!) So many nightmares!

Thankfully, ADE hasn't flopped on me yet. But I wait, with bated breath. (And purchase most of my e-books in unencumbered formats. Guess what? I don't share them with all my friends even though I so easily could because they are not "protected" from me (the legit customer, oh irony of irony!).

If my friends want the book I purchased, they can go buy it for their own damn selves! That cost me money!!! I'm not a friggin' book charity. As with real life, I jealously guard my digital possessions whether there is DRM on it or not.)

I think I'm going to just leave it for now. I'll see what happens the next time I borrow a library book.

I just wonder what I might have done to make it malfunction like this.

I recently started having trouble with books not showing up in ADE, they were not even going to the ADE folder.

I did a search of these books my computer. Turns out, they were going to the Sony Reader ebook folder.

I'm wondering if it may be a "where do I send this book" issue since I had also very recently installed the Sony Reader software on my computer to take advantage of a free book offer. That's about when this started.

ADE just did this to me too, giving me an error message about not being able to re-import something or other. I suspect they're being glitchy overall again.

For what it's worth, redownloading from the library allowed me to return the book early. Since I'm set for the minimum 7-day loans as a default, I only bothered for the one which I know has another half-dozen people on hold for it.

When you install Sony Reader software, it sets itself as the default, so you need to change it back to ADE.

I didn't get any error messages; I just clicked on an epub file to open it in ADE and saw that all the books had disappeared.

My books are checked out for 21 days, so I really should be nice and return the ones I'm done with for the sake of other library patrons.
