Anyone experienced similar problem? I have no clue what to do

Entu I've had weird locking up issues with my readers when I downloaded a faulty book, usually from a torrent site, not an online bookseller. One time it was locking up so much I couldn't get it running. I believe I had to take the book off via a PC connection. The problem was that it was the last book loaded and since it was in sleep mode, it kept opening up as soon as I turned it on. It was quite a pain, but I knew what it was immediately.

Today its "hang on" again its seems after i loose one bar on battery indicator and its go sleep mode or i turn it off i need to reset it and charge again otherwise it wont work, its looks like battery its not charge to full power , but battery indicator showing full bar and reader show 'charging complete' after 10-15 min max after i connect it to pc..

I removed now my external card and restored settings to factory + i formatted internal memory, i hope it will work.

I suggest that you drain the battery until there is one bar, or less - if that is possible. Running the MP3 player is a quick way to deplete the battery. Then charge the battery until it is fully charged - it should take around 3 hours.

Presumably you are aware that when charging the battery, you need to wait until the arrow on the right-hand side of the battery icon disappears, otherwise it is not fully charged. I assume you are still charging your reader via USB connection. However, just in case you are charging with an AC adaptor, note that the battery icon is located at the right-hand corner of the screen, with the arrow on the right-hand side of it. The arrow is tiny, so it is easily missed.

According to the User Guide:
The time to completely charge a depleted battery is about 3 hours with a USB connection, or about 2 hours by the optional AC adaptor (PRSA-AC1).
The screen will appear after about 5 minutes if charging starts with a completely depleted battery.

Note
  • The Reader only charges when the connected computer is powered on.
  • The Reader cannot be operated when connected to a computer via USB.
Sleep mode
When set "On", the Reader enters sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity and powers off after 2 days of continuous sleep mode.
To turn sleep mode off:
HOME -> Settings -> System Management -> Power Management -> Turn Off

ill try to run mp3 file, when i'm charging ( still via USB ) i got big battery in middle of my reader screen with arrow on right side and description above, "Charging battery" or "Charging complete" but with both options i still have arrow on right side of it.

Its no matter if i turn off sleep mode, because if i "lost" one bar from battery indicator and turn reader off i will not be able to run it on until i reset it.

If I understand you correctly, after discharging the battery and recharging it, you then turned the reader off and were unable to turn it back on. So, you pressed reset and the reader started. Have I got that right?

Which is it? In sleep mode, or "i turned it off"? I am confused!

Presumably, "... sometimes its just "hang on" in sleep mode ..." means that it remains, or stays, in sleep mode, and cannot be woken by operating the slide switch.

The word "hang" has a particular connotation, when used in connection with a computerised device, such as your reader. "Hang" usually means that the screen, or device, freezes, or locks up, during use, requiring a reset, or hard reset, depending the device. Your reader is effectively still on, when in sleep mode, so it is not easy to determine whether it is hanging, or whether it is not being woken up from sleep mode properly.

According to the User Guide:
Power Switch
  • Power on or wake up from sleep mode: Slide to the right and release quickly.
  • Enter sleep more: Slide and release quickly. The standby screen appears.
  • Power off completely: When not in sleep mode slide and hold for more than 3 seconds. Follow the instructions on the screen.
So, are you releasing the slide switch quickly enough?

If you are saying the problem is not that you were unable to switch it on after switching it off, rather it is that you are unable to switch it on after it has entered sleep mode automatically, then have you tried disabling sleep mode?
HOME -> Settings -> System Management -> Power Management -> Turn Off

Have you tried doing a hard reset?
NB - A hard reset will erase all content on the reader. Make sure that you back up all your data beforehand.

If you are unsure where files are located, then you might find this helpful:

The 650 does do some strange things when charging.

I use a iGo system (www.igo.com) with an A97 tip. If I charge it until the red light goes out, it shows a full charge, but rather quickly drops a bar. But lasts for a LONG time before dropping the 2nd and 3rd bar.

If I charge off the PC (always on, NO sleep mode) it lasts much longer before dropping the f1st bar.

Love the iGo system. I use it for my Sony 505 and 950 Readers, as well as for my cell phone and headset. Never had a charging/battery problem in more than 3 years of use.

I do not understand how your reader can possibly "... stays in sleep mode ..." if you have "... turned off entering in sleep mode in preferences ..."

That seems illogical to me. In order to stay in sleep mode, it must first enter sleep mode. Surely it cannot enter sleep mode, if you have turned sleep mode turned off in Power Management. Are you quite sure you have turned it off properly? See Post #25.

Your reader certainly is behaving strangely. Have you tried removing all books? See Post #17.

Ok, before its stays in sleep mode untill i got advice to turn it off, and now sleep mode its turned off.

Yes i removed all books, formatted internal memory, removed sd card, restored to deflauts ect.

I tried to contact Sony in Poland because my neglish its not that good ( as you can see ) to contact with UK, but when i'm sended them email they not answered me ( i'm waiting already 4th day ) but i'm not amazed by that i got Sonys Tv and owned PS3 and usually i'm waiting 2-3 weeks for answer without solution ofc, and people on phone can tell you only thing which you can read about reader at sonys site ( no help at all )
