PRS-650 Sony Lighted Cover

I just tried to replace the battery in my lighted cover with a AAA NiMH 750mAh rechargeable battery and it didn't work. I can't find the original packaging for the cover and a search at sonystyle told me nothing about what batteries the cover takes.

Does anyone know what batteries work in the cover?

Mine still has the original alkaline battery in it so I know those work. But, a NiMH rechargeable should also work. I doubt the light knows the difference. Are you 100% sure the battery is good?

AAA rechargeable works just fine in my case. So perhaps your battery is not in good shape.

I had a problem when I first put rechargeables in my 650. The original battery had lasted so long that my backups had lost charge and died within 5 minutes of inserting them! They definitely worked, though.

A NiMH AAA works fine in my lighted cover as well.

Thanks. I guess these new batteries weren't as new as I thought. Got it working now.

If the rechargeable batteries were new, then they probably would have little or no charge - you usually need to charge them before first use.

The problem with a lot of rechargeables is that they don't hold the charge well. And for a device where you don't use it all that much, you could end up needing to replace the battery a lot sooner then you should.
