even when things were pretty dodgy for me and I had a hard time putting beans on the table for the kids, I tried to keep my principles and overall view of the world and standards

Boxing and book critic I'll agree with. Anyone engaging in either of those two occupations really does need help.

Rugby, I'm not so sure about. Inflicting pain is merely a by-product rather than the purpose of the sport.
