It's not me. it's the message Amazon is sending out about the K3. They say it's OK to play rough with your K3 and naked too. They even risk it in the car. If the driver has to stop short, the K3 can go flying off the seat.

I can understand why they didn't use the cover in the commercials. If they did that, people might expect the Kindle to come with a cover. Showing the pocketing was a very bad idea, though.

Although I can't picture a Kindle owner ever allowing it, I'm not sure a dog licking the Kindle (especially on the back) is going to do anything to it. At least they didn't show the dog carrying it in its mouth!

The fact is, that without a cover, they make the K3 out to be more sturdy then it really is. That toss into the front seat of the car is almost as bad as the pocket. If the car has to make a sudden stop, the K3 goes flying off the seat to hit the dash and break.

my dog has licked my kindle quite a few times

don't worry your pretty little head about it. when people get their kindles they see exactly what they have invested in and treat that investment accordingly. my kindle has gone off the seat of my car quite a few times in traffic, it always hits the floor before the dash. no harm no foul

What's interesting is that the Kindles in the advert have had the narrower margin hack applied to them.

Meh, Amazon isn't suggesting durability, they are merely pointing out that you can leisurely transport and put thousands of books in your pocket. It's all about convenience in the ad.

I certainly can't fit the Kindle into my back pocket! I haven't even seen the new ad yet. I guess I'll have to pay more attention. I tend to tune out commercials, and I'm often talking with my spouse during TV breaks.

I would beat someone if they treated my Kindle 3 like that even with a case. It *may* be able to take the abuse, but I'll not chance it thanks.

I don't think they are suggesting that anyone other than the owner participate in kindle abuse

I've set my Kindle in the front seat like that many times, along with my phone and other junk. It either goes there, or in the side pocket in the door. I guess that makes me a Kindle abuser.

Thats a good idea. Just wanted to point out that if you have one of the smaller 5 inch readers you need to make sure that it is placed in a rear facing car seat. If you have a six inch reader you can use a regular car seat. If you have one of the large readers like the DXG you are probably safe with using just a seat belt.
