:coughs: spitting out hair balls and such like.....

You might find it'll be the older lot who keep with ereaders whilst the younger generation plump for the all-singing-all-dancing one-for-all units like the tablets...but nothing is quite as simple as your broad statement.

I'm 29 and I received a Kindle for Christmas this year. I also dislike cell phones and facebook so I guess I'm in an odd category

I initially didn't want one, I thought it was better to buy actual books to add to my collection. The problem I ran into was that the only bookstores around are 30 miles away and at least half of the books I wanted weren't in stock. Then I would have to get online and order the book and wait for it to arrive. Very frustrating....

The Kindle has been great so far though. I don't have to worry about going without having a book to read anymore, which is awesome

The European market (excluding perhaps the UK) is very different from the US/Canadian market when it comes to e-books. Commuting distances are shorter, and the availability of e-books is very much an issue.

Here in France, the French publishers are used to their "privileges" - including the "no discount" rule on p-books. They're loathe to give this up so you find the price of French language e-books is pretty high (IMO, anyhow) plus there is the full-rate VAT to be paid (rather than the low rate on paper based publications).

English language publishers have a much larger potential market world-wide to amortize their fixed costs, too. But e-readers are starting to show up in the standard electronics shops here, along with e-books to read on them. So, the explosion is coming.

I live in France and to be honest I haven't seen many people reading off an ereader here maybe that's because not many books are translated into different languages at the moment.

I'm getting a kindle when I go over to England next week, so maybe I'll start a trend! lol

The only place I've seen e-readers being used is at our Barnes & Noble store. Both Kindles & Nooks. I haven't seen any others in use.
