I've read two of his books, The Association, and The Academy. Both were creepy has all getout. The Association makes me glad I don't live in a place with a Home Owners Association LOL.

In that case, Crawlspace should freak you right out. I read it as a teenager and I have no idea who wrote it, but it's about some guy who takes up residence under a house and terrorizes the couple who live there.

I don't know about the scariest, since I don't really scare while reading. but it is my favorite genre.

but the one book where I felt the most transplanted into the scenes and it's environment was Ghost Story by Peter Straub. I read it during the summer a couple of years ago, but i would have sworn it was middle of winter and I was in a small upstate New York town.

Great read.

I've been wanting to read Swan Song for a while now, but the Kindle edition is $13.99 while the paperback is $4.99 new. I'm not paying a $9 premium for the Kindle version.

I'm on it. My husband will soon be complaining when I make him check out all the sounds in our house!

I'm so excited! When I was a kid, I read in the living room, and there was a wall of floor to ceiling windows across from me. We lived in the country, so we never bothered to close the drapes. But when you are reading a scary book at 2 am, and everyone else went to bed at 10, you better not look up on your way to bed! I was sure I would see someone peering in the window.

Anyway, I ordered the book from the library. It should be here tomorrow. My husband is out of town, so I will read it tomorrow night. We don't have a crawlspace, but we have a basement. I think I will read it down there.

No love for Dan Simmons? I think Song of Kali is one of the most harrowing novels I've ever read. You don't need supernatural monsters when humans are sufficiently evil.

Yes! That's the book that jumped to mind for me, as well. AND that scene is the very scene that made it so impressionable. I remember it clearly although I read it in high school, over 40 years ago. I also remembering the movie - looking so forward to seeing it, and when that bedroom scene was played, it just did not do for me what the written passage did. But I do own a copy of the film on DVD, but my copy of the book is lost...

The scariest book I ever read would be It by Stephen King; I think it had something to do with the clown. I don't like clowns - I think they're creepy

You know - I really think that clowns are creepy, whether they're being used as a device for horror or not.

Remember this guy?
