What the OP of that post was saying was that if you had books on a K1 and you got rid of the K1 you would not be able to read those books on a K3. This is not correct. Kindle accounts are set up so that multiple e-readers can be used on them and everyone on that account has access to those books. You do not lose access when you change devices.
I agree with you entirely... I was just getting all geeky and stuff with terminology.

Yup, all DRM are bad.
Actually this is that you said.

My comment was directed towards your statement(emphasis mine).

Point is you don't need an eInk to read Kindle books. As a matter of fact, I've been enjoying kindle books on my color nook

I don't know if that is the case, but that is not my experience. I have a book that I cannot download on my kindle device because of the limit max. Unfortunately it's a Topaz book so converting it is not so easy.

I'm thinking that all I have to do is call Amazon tech support and ask them to reset the license on that book. I just haven't gotten around to doing so.

But that gets back to the heart of the OP post. I think many folks just don't realize how important Tech support is. Often people focus on choice and price until they need tech support and that is when their nighmares begin.

It is the very reason why I think the Kindle is such a great product TS is part of the product.

From what DiapDealer posted it sounds like when you deregister a Kindle you get the book license back. Which makes sense.

Nook color is NOT e-ink. So it don't qualify. You can also read on your pc, or android cellphone, but it's not really comfortable.
I do need e-ink to read comfortably.

Until the day they aren't anymore. Or the publisher decided to put a geo-restiction on the book in the meantime, preventing you from re-downloading. That goes with the "un-drm" part. I'm not much for the "in the cloud" for stuff I paid for. Amazon sound like the safest option for this kind of things, but I wouldn’t trust even them.
You do realize that you can save Amazon books to your computer if you want. It is convienent to have them in the archive but most Kindle owners have a copy saved on their computer hard drive as well. So that if the great hand of Jeff Bezos reaches in to take all of our e-books out of the archive we can simply reload them because we saved them on our hard drives.

Interestingly enough, this very "problem" exists for people who buy books from Sony, BN, Kobo, or any other ebook store that has an archive. Which means it is a "problem" for all ebook readers and a good reason to have all of the books saved to your hard drive no matter what type of device you own.

(goes off to make a tin foil hat because the last one was used when making dinner this weekend)

Yes, but unless you de-drm that copy, it will work only for the devices it have been downloaded for. Reinstall windows and kindleForPC, oh, damm, the copy will not read on the pc anymore. You need to register the new kindle for pc to amazon, and download the book again.

It's less problematic with ADE, the copy is registered to you adobe account, and will be usable. install ade, register it, import books into ade, send to new device. Adept is crap on lots of aspect, but not that one.

But even there, i de-drm for my peace of mind. So my books are really mine.

And what happens when ADE decides to change its DRM? Or your ADE account goes on the fritz?

DRM is not ideal, no matter the type of DRM. DRM on EPubs is just as bad as DRM on Mobi.

And Kindle is really easy to work with. Multiple accounts are a cake walk. Register the device, open the archive, download the book. No gymnastics there.

If I want to strip DRM, I know to save the Kindle for PC version. (shrugs) It is basic and easy to do.

If I have a problem with my account, I call Kindle CS. My problem is normally fixed in five minutes. It sounds to me like the Adobe CD support people are not that good. Or speedy. Or helpful.

I'll take Amazon thank you very much.

Does this would happen in normal use ? changing e-reader or re-installing widows, on the other hand....

Adobe can't change the drm without everyone following... Not likely to happen.
Amazon on the other hand, having the whole control of the chain, could.

Anyway, my cybook don't read mobi, so mobi are total useless to me. Mobi to ePub isn't flawless, so i'll rather avoid it.
I used mobi, I'm using ePub, and I definitively prefer ePub.

Let me try again.

I have changed e-readers. I bought a Kindle DX, it took me 30 seconds to open the archive and move books. Very simple.

Adobe can change its DRM and those using Adobe's drm will have to change or develop their own DRM. Adobe controls its DRM the same way Amazon controls its DRM. Different comapny, same end result.

I am glad you are happy with your reader. That is what really matters.

Really - reason number 42 or whatever of why I blow away DRM within minutes of purchase. I'm just not willing to struggle with all that so I can access the books I own.
I put in a Web case last Friday with Adobe for just this issue, I found an email Saturday morning saying that they'd done what was needed, and I was able to authorize my new device. Less than 24 hour turnaround time. I then got another email and then a personal phone call from them asking me if the issue was resolved and if I was satisfied with their customer service.

On the basis of this experience, I certainly recommend putting in a Web case to start, before fearing it's all so horribly difficult.

Unless you wanted to reread something there wouldn't be any need to redownload them for free onto the new reader, they would just remain in your archive on the new device and you could get them from there as needed.
