Contacted Amazon, and of course they played the dumb card... "We can't change tags if they don't fall outside our guidelines."

Then they actually said "We want our feature to be something that our customers find useful."

I responded:
"I refuse to believe that if someone put inaccurate or offending material in your tags... say, "sex with donkeys"... that Amazon could not remove those tags. Those tags are inaccurate, hurtful to me, and impact adversely on my sales.

I'll bet if Harper Collins or Random House said something, you'd remove them without a second thought. Thanks for the support."

I did the agree/disagree thing, but the numbers don't appear to have changed. maybe I did it rong?

Ugh! Why is it that now that we've finally committed to staying in this location, my dream job opens up in my fantasy location? Now what? We couldn't afford to live there on my salary alone (provided they hired me anyway), and we both have great jobs here. Plus my kids love it here, so to move them would be difficult. But they have lots of cousins there, and lots of opportunities. But we're about to close on a wonderful, gorgeous house here....

ever have one of those days that you totally didn't prepare for?

so I headed out to the puppy park this morning to meet with some friends of mine that are immigrants from Hungary. I am helping him with his resume and needed to pick some material up from him. my plan then was to go into the office (real estate). as I was walking across the meadow towards my friends, cell phone goes off. it's a technical staffing agency that I have dome some work for, and actually already had scheduled to train some people tomorrow on their new phone system. big big install job in Seattle and one of the techs didn't show up, can I come help? I have my dog, no tools, am not in carhartts, more like business casual... sure what the hell. race to the ferry, get on it, get to downtown Seattle in record time. the phones aren't there. I made it there by 1. phones don't show up until 3:30. 2 of us got 50 VOIP phones unboxed, set up installed and wired in 5 hours! now the down side... I got home about a half hour ago, (it's almost midnight) I need to be up at 6 to catch the ferry in tomorrow to do the training. I't totally wired...

and of course, Arwen is still singing her "love" song ;o(

Please don't take it personally. I bet you there are people out there who do this kind of thing to any random book/author and I doubt very much that someone has actually targeted you specifically. There are idiots everywhere unfortunately

Just rise above it and remain positive. I never even check the tags out when buying books - I go on reviews and even if some reviews are poor, I often like to read a sample and make up my own mind. It will all come right in the end.

I have very seldom read books on recommendation. Maybe because my tastes are somewhat different.

I have suspended 12 users and permanently banned 4 users in the last 4 hours. I really believe that stupidity is viral in some places. [/VENT MODE OFF]

No, I DO NOT understand, nor appreciate, your attitude about these tags. Based on Amazon's posted guidelines:

"What tags shouldn't I use?

By default your tags are public so everyone can view them. You should not use:

* Profane or obscene language, inciting or *spiteful* tags "

The "DRM infected" and "DefectiveByDesign" tags are, in fact, "spiteful" tags, being used specifically to suggest my books are using DRM, an effort to adversely affect their sales, as well as being downright lies. This is a slur against me, as I've avowed not to use DRM in my books, and have never done so, as those familiar with my work will attest. Someone has targeted me and my book and seeks to directly hurt its chances of sale by blatantly lying about it, and me... if that's not the definition of "spiteful," I don't know what is.

So go ahead... blow me off. Amazon has consistently shown absolutely no interest in the state of those authors who publish through its site, while the big publishers get all its attention and consideration. But of course, I already knew that... this just counts as another indication of Amazon's clear disdain for independent authors. Something for me to remember when it comes time to publish my next book.

I have no idea what I was thinking when I decided to get an MBA. I mean is great to have a Master Degree but since my background is Chemical Engineering... where the hell was my common sense??? I rather be taking Organic Chemistry than Finance (no ofense) or Marketing!!. Now I have to take classes every weekend from 8-5:30... oh well just 6 more months

I can sympathize with you.
I did an MBA and an MPA together (so many of the required courses overlap) and had absolutely no interest in business! I only did it because companies wanted to see business degrees for teaching within their human resource training programs even if the subjects being taught had nothing to do with business. Classes every night and every weekend for almost two years. BORING!!! And... to make matters worse, one usually has to maintain a "B" or better grade point to stay in the programs.

It was nice to finish with them, have them behind me, and get on with the next level in a more enjoyable subject field!

Hang in there. It's actually worth it in the end.

I think anything related to Finance and/or Economics is boring, isn't it? Phylosophy should be less boring, perhaps even be considered interesting.
