I think it's supposed to keep it up overnight...glad I don't work tomorrow. Chris does, but he has a 4 wheel drive Blazer and thinks weather like this is FUN to drive in!
I'd MUCH rather drive in the chunky stuff, than packed stuff!

And one of the lead news stories tonight was about my city (I'm a bit south of Atlanta) and all the fingerpointing going on between the mayor and the city manager. I don't know who's to blame, but the streets here didn't even get sanded or salted, let alone cleared. It was ridiculous! And I have to take a little personal responsibility myself -- if I had gotten over to my mom's and cleared her walk and driveway right after the snow fell (although that would have been DURING the freezing rain LOL), it wouldn't have frozen into that almost-impossible-to-chip mess that we dealt with all week. Oh well, live and learn!
if you get another serious storm do you think you might have her stay with you or vice versa? that's what we always used to do in Colorado and New MExico when it was bad; all hunker down together so we could pool our resources and didn't have to worry about each other and what might be going on

[QUOTE=SneakySnake;1342898]Thanks everyone for their kind thoughts about poor old salty dog (FIL) But he has lived a long and reasonably healthy life. details >
Spoiler:
Now 82 and dying of cancer. He can still do most things for himself, but has become thin and frail these past few months. I am mostly worried that he is getting more cantankerous. He has been staying with his 81 year old girlfriend, and I am worried about her as they have been arguing a lot and she is very stressed by it all. The threat to him is if he can't behave, he will have to come here, which I think he would rather not! Both bloke and myself would not put up with cranky behaviour

You will do the right thing ....

Here it be sunny, at plus 3C - but the grass is covered in hoar frost ....

In retrospect, yes. I think we all learned some lessons from this storm.

But will that learning be learnt!

I've lost count of the number of times that phrase is used in many contexts and all is deemed well until the .... next time .....

I hope I learned! I now have a shovel at my house, a shovel at mom's house, kitty litter in the back of the car, and yaktrax on order. Of course, supposedly this type of event only happens here every 14 or 15 years, but I'll be ready!

Yeah, I'll probably use it as kitty litter before I need it again for ice!

We had wet snow, then icy rain today, on top of 2 feet of accumulated snow. The s. other tried to go out in the car tonight. It didn't work out too well.

Anybody live near Pittsburgh? They showed footage on our local news tonight of cars crashing into each other wildly on the ice. I guess they are used to snowy roads, not icy ones?

No, Betty...missing out on all that fun

Edit: You know what; the minute I said that, it began to hail over here with hailstones the size of a pea.

6C (43F) Dry Partly Cloudy, little wind....

Geese on the fields, some overhead - flying southwestwards.

I heard geese as well this morning. Are they returning to the river? I think it's too soon for that; normally we have snow in februar. Now it's sunny, clear sky and 7 C.
