I actually had to go for a job-interview once, when all was iced over, like mirror. I had no socks (at 21 years of age) and was wet all over when I finally arrived. Did get the job, though.
You remind me of my most memorable job interview - flew into Prince Edward Island in a blizzard (Canadian airlines seem to fly in any weather) - was supposed to be picked up at my motel by car to go to the interview - blizzard dumped 3-4 feet of snow overnight. So the island folk showed up on foot at my motel, provided me with a knee-length fur lined parka and knee-high snow boots - and we walked through waist high snow to get to the interview site on campus. They walked in front to "blaze the trail" and I floundered along behind. As I repeatedly fell flat on my face in the snow, I rethought my decision to apply for a job here.
[P.S. I didn't get the job.]

That sounds all to similar to an interview I had with Heathkit (near Chicago) one time.

I've always worn a lot of different kinds of boots; riding, hiking, climbing, cowboy, ski, combat. none of them are worth a damn without socks! (plus I was in the Army at 21, I can just imagine what the reaction would have been had I found myself minus all socks!)

Using it all the time in Hawaii is the law! One that is rarely (never) enforced, and also one that I break regularly. Of course we don't need to worry about the cables freezing here, unless you're on one of the BIG mountains on the Big Island.

I thought it was a "parking brake". I use it whenever I park the car. Why do you say I oughtn't to do so?

i know it as emergency brake and use it only rarely. at least in my old car the more you use it the less it holds, so if i want to have it running in case the actual brake breaks i have to save it. but if you put your car on gear you never need the handbreak, unless the angle is more than 30°. and if you drive a lorry (and want to find it where it was parked), you *always* use it, unless the angle is less than 1°

What boots did you have on when you went to feed the horses? Also, do you have any help at all where you are? A one-man band sounds terrific, but in the case of emergency it's literally a pain in the neck. Horses fed?

Take it easy.

Cheers

it's technically an emergency brake. it can freeze in cold weather and takes an extraordinary amount of time to thaw. when it is frozen you cannot move the car at all, it is even tighter than normal. also, as LCF has pointed out, using it a lot stretches the cable so that it comes to the point that you REALLY need it, it does not hold.

I had on a pair of riding boots ;o(. I have very rare help. I just broke everything down into smaller portions and made more trips even though all I wanted to do was crawl into my bed. I'm at work right now rotating ice packs
