It works! Wool socks OVER the shoes. I just gave it a try, and although nothing really seems to work on the absolutely smooth ice when the temp is so low, the socks over the shoes works great on any area that's been roughed up at all! Thank you thank you thank you!!

when you can get out again go to one of the military surplus stores, look for the big thick Army green socks. use them turned inside out, they have mass fuzzy on them

It just is so scary that ice. I'm glad the socks helped a little; it's a very old- fashioned thing, as it works best with home-knitted socks and almost no one does that any more. In emergency's you could google fot the knitting instructions and speed-knit your way to freedom.

And fancy that, I actually USED socks I knitted, made from wool that I spun myself, from a sheep owned and sheared by a friend of mine. (They were very old and worn out, so I didn't mind sacrificing them to the ice.) I figured wool would work best because think of how wool mittens "grab" onto the snow and ice when you touch it.

frick frack fr.... DAMNIT!!!! I went out to feed the horses and my feet went completely out from under me, flew into the air and landed on my right side and hand! I am ALREADY busted up! I can't do this!!! *whine*

the very tip of my tailbone is completely broken off, that's what happens when you fall off of one too many telephone poles. I landed more to the right side than dead center. I don't think anything is broken or cracked, possibly strained, certainly bruised
