Well, I shipped away 3 devices yesterday and have used two of the coupons. We'll see how it progresses.

As of this morning (1/11) the deal now seems to be a $25 coupon good only on online order of $74.99 or more. And now you only get the coupon when they get your unit, although that part just is common sense.

I submitted a couple of mp3 players yesterday and "got" the $30 coupon deal, although I haven't received the confirmation e-mails with coupon info yet. (Fingers crossed...AND I haven't sent them in yet...waiting to see the coupon first...)

This morning I thought of one more mp3 player, but when I went to the website and put in similar parameters as the other two, I got this message instead:

Quote:
I understand that I will receive an eCoupon for the amount stated above immediately upon receipt and verification of my trade-in item.
My eCoupon for $25 can be redeemed online during checkout at www.sonystyle.com with a combined purchase of $74.99 or greater.
I then checked it, just for fun, with much nicer mp3 player parameters (my current unit), and with a camera, and although each of those had an "estimate" of a gift card for some additional amount, the first $25 was still this new type of e-coupon.

Knew it was too good to last - now I just hope the two $30 codes that I requested yesterday DO come through that way...and not these new, virtually useless ones...

sort of IMPORTANT if you haven't gotten your confirmation e-mail with coupon code...

And more....

I went looking on the website, and found the "check status" link at

https://recycling.econewonline.com/s...heck_my_status

If you input your tracking number, or your e-mail address and password, you can see the status.

My two from yesterday (see previous post) DO show the $30 coupon, but ALSO show that they are waiting for me to send the unit in BEFORE I get the coupon.

I think I'm going to print both of these confirmation pages now, and then take the chance and send both in. At least I'll have something to argue with if I get the wrong coupon back!

So, if you are "in limbo" like I was, you might check your status - it appears they changed the "instant" part of the deal before they changed the type of coupon you get.

What Sony told me this afternoon

They told me via email that if I traded in a phone, I could only use my $50 trade in to purchase accessories for my phone. If I traded in a Sony VAIO, I could only purchase accessories for the VAIO. I emailed them back and said that makes no sense. Why would I send them something that I can only purchase accessories for, when I no longer have that item? I don't think they are clear on what the e-coupons are for.

Arg I held off on submitting another item as well because I wanted to make sure I could use the ones I was emailed first incase they 'altered the deal'. I at least got two of my coupons redeemed and items on the way to me, just have to drop mine off, and now will check to see what happens with the 3rd I had applied to a 350 but didn't checkout.

Figures they are figuring out how their automated system wasn't setup properly in steps.

I admit I'm the one who posted on FatWallet because it sounded like a spectacular deal overall. But the real hit happened with SlickDeals -- their forum thread on the Sony Recycle program has over 1,000 replies (compared to ~70 on FW). Because of the overwhelming response, Sony ran out of instant ecoupon codes and decided to change the terms of the offer. Some people managed to do things like trade in 9 junky cell phones for a $450 (!) GC at their local Sony Style store. Yikes!

Sony CS says that if you submitted before they changed the terms of the offer, your coupon should come soon and will be without the minimum purchase requirements.

Sorry to ruin it for you MR folks... I had no idea that FW and SD would slam them so hard and bring the deal down.

Well, I called Sony this evening. Last week I "traded-in" an Augen The Book, a non-functioning, broken-screen ipod 2nd gen. and an old LG phone (that remained unsold on ebay for $5) and received via email instant coupons for $50, $30 and $50 respectively. I've since used the two $50 coupons to purchase my daughter a PRS-350 (on sale on their site for $179) and an mp3 player for my son to replace the defunct ipod. I'm not sure what I'll use the $30 coupon for. Both new devices were shipped last night per the sony site, so I haven't received them yet. I mailed out the recycling devices yesterday.
Then on another thread here on mobileread I learned that BestBuy and Borders have this same reader for $149. So I called Sony to see if they'd honor this price, plus let me use the coupon. At first they wouldn't budge and said something about the coupon no longer being useful since I had already used it, that it has an expiration date that had gone by (it hadn't, since I had until the 16th to mail the old devices in). I suggested that this penalizes me since I could have just used the coupon on something else and bought the reader for $30 less than the sony site, and that this made my $50 coupon worth $20. Hold again. Then they came back and said that since the reader was already on sale on the sony site ($10 off), that they couldn't honor another sellers sale price. I pointed out that this was my 5th reader purchase, that I could have purchased a $139 kindle instead, or could even return the device I haven't received yet and buy something else, but they wouldn't budge. They did offer me a $10 refund on my order, however, so I guess I'm not disappointed. But it would have been nice for them to honor BestBuy's price and honor the coupon.

So, if you want to use your coupon, call and get them to match any competetors price FIRST, then add your coupon into the deal.

Yeah, if you see a deal on FW or SD, it's over in a matter of hours.
At least you posted here first
Thanks for that, I've got a $5 cover on the way in exchange for an old Sony MP3 player.
