It is in a box of rags/old towels in the workshop(attached to the shed). I was going to go take a photo but it is raining too hard at the moment.
Yes we picked it up. We heard a loud bang and when I went outside it was sitting in the driveway.

Good thing he wasn't sitting in the old gum tree because it was struck by lightning just before six this morning. I think he will be more comfy in the box for the moment.

I think he has brain damage. I got it out of the box and it flapped its wings and fell over

I have jsut been reading up about Kookaburras. It appears to be common to have concussion. Nothing appears broken adn there is no bleeding. So maybe it will be OK. I think it maybe a girl bird.

Sometimes birds fly against my window and drop concussed in my garden. I just lay them somewhere out of reach of the cats and mostly they're recovered enough to fly away, after a few hours.
Will you take care with all that water? It's scary.

Ditto - we had a female cardinal fly full speed into the sliding glass door on the deck. I found her on the floor pressing the top of her head against the wall. I built up some protective walls around her with cardboard to protect her from any cats .. and she eventually flew away. Time is a great healer.

Errr...sounds funny advice with all that rain ... but be sure she has a little pan of water - to stay hydrated.

Bloke took the Kookaburra to the vet. It has some sort of concussion. Hopefully it will get better and be released back to its gum tree. Poor thing!

We once rescued a parrot from the cat's mouth after it flew into a window and the cat picked it up and ran off. It spent the night in a box and flew away in the morning. Sadly this kookaburra is still crook!

Thanks, but it is the vets who care for these wild creatures for free and pass them on the volunteer carers for rehabilitation. You have to fill out a special form so that if they nurse them back to health they know where to release them near their home.
