Sending files from linux

I just bough a kindle for amazon, I think its a last gen. The problem is I'm a linux guy, yet the the kindle which runs by linux, does not seems to support linux. How can I send files to it from linux? (other than using calibre, and other than using amazon services)

Is there anyway I can download files to it from internet? I mean downloading directly to the device without of any computer? I'm thinking about building a small website(LAMP stack) on my wifi and make kindle download from it.

And is there anyway I can "brick" my kindle from PC? I mean by wrong drivers or by forcing a sync.

Not sure why you think it doesn't support Linux. The Kindle doesn't have any software that runs on the computer itself so it supports Linux, Windows, OSX and every other OS that can handle using USB MSC HDs.

Plug it in. Mount it as a USB HD. Copy files over. Unmount it. Unplug it.

Your old Kindle is 3G only and doesn't have the WiFi hardware that the new Kindle 3 has so the only way to get content on there is via the USB connection or to download via 3G from the Kindle store or from a web page which serves the files with the correct MIME type.

You don't sync to a computer with the Kindle. You generally can't brick a Kindle without screwing around with firmware updates or jailbreaking it at which point you're doing it at your own risk. The only thing I would advise not to do is to completely fill the Kindle drive as it doesn't like that and some people have reported that it ends up in a really peculiar buggy state when you do that.

Gotta agree with that. I'm a Linux user and I've never felt like I'm missing out on any of the functionality of my Kindle.

Sure. Open the Kindle Store in your Kindle's browser and download to your heart's content... or any other website that is properly hosting DRM-free mobi ebooks.

What I trying to say by is there any change I can brick it by connecting it to a PC. I mean if my PC sends faulty/bad signals to it, possible because of a buggy driver.

And thanks alot for that mounting USB HD tip, I didn't knew that was supported. Now I just copy my calibre library folder into it, right?

The Kindle doesn't support ePub. Its in the specs listed by Kindle. I've never tried downloading a PDF on the Kindle but you can view PDFs.

If your PC suddenly shorts out and puts mains voltage on the USB port then sure, it'll damage the Kindle and anything else you got plugged in. Excluding that, it is generally safe assuming that the USB port and PC is not faulty.

Not quite. You'll know what I mean when you take an actual look at the contents in your Calibre Library folders.

The answer is actually in the "Kindle User's Guide":
8.2 Transferring Files from Your Computer
Managing Your Documents
..... you can still add content to it by connecting it to a computer so that it acts as a USB drive. After your Kindle is attached to your computer as a USB drive, you will see three default directories or folders. The one called "documents" contains all of your digital reading materials like books, newspapers, your My Clippings file, etc. .... You can add Kindle-compatible files to these directories, and you can copy, move, or delete the files that are already there. The computer file formats that you can read or listen to on your Kindle are listed below:
• Kindle (.AZW, .AZW1, .AZW2)
• Text (.TXT)
• PDF (.PDF)
• Unprotected Mobipocket (.MOBI, .PRC)
...
...
