I auto-nootered my NC last night but not much more. I did install Angry Birds
and that went okay but I must have missed something because I can't find it
anywhere on the NC in the traditional sense of the word. I can do a search
and find it...and play it.

The afore mentioned problem is obviously part of something I did, or didn't do,
and I would like to fix it. But I could take this a bit further and get some suggestions
of things I need to install.

I have no idea what is good or bad or even useful in Android. My goal for now
is to keep it simple at least until I get more familiar with a rooted NC.

I would like to get a backup program that could be used to restore after an
update so I would like to hear something about that. If you want to just point
me to a good thread that would be okay. My problem is that some info is dated
and I don't want to do something meant for older hardware. I am at 1.0.1.

Thanks for reading this. I know, everyone has a problem. lol

You need to reboot if you want installed apps to show in "Extras". If you use a home screen replacement (launcher) this will not be an issue. You'll be able to see new installs immediately within the launcher menu.

I use MyBackupPro. Titanium Backup is another popular one.

Thanks SCION, I was just playing around with the home button and I had been
choosing softkeys for home. I had read something while doing the rooting
and thought that was right. But I tried the "home" choice and Angry Birds
appeared in Extras.

One thing if you could, I noticed that there is an "uninstall" button within the
properties of ABs. Does this device really work in apps from the Market?

EDIT: One more thing SCION, where do you backup to? I believe the file system for
the SD card is the same as VISTA, could I backup to a folder on my PC? Or, maybe,
move the file after the backup?

Yes, the backup app backs up to the card in the device. You can then copy that backup folder to somewhere else. I keep a copy in my DropBox. I should add that there may be an option to backup online if this option is offered by the app.

"Does this device really work in apps from the Market?"...please clarify what you want to know.

Sorry if I wasn't clear...What I mean is this. If I want to uninstall an app that
I acquired from the Market and I use the uninstall option, will it uninstall the app
completely? Or, like in a Microsoft OS, leave little bits and pieces of the app
all over the place. We do have limited space on our nooks and I would like to
keep it clean.

BTW: Thanks for your help.

out loud!

I don't have something I can test now, but there may be a possibility that the app folder (with data) would remain. That's not necessarily a bad thing in some cases. You may uninstall something and then realize that you wanted something within that folder. You could then re-install if needed. Or maybe you shouldn't have uninstalled it, but should have upgraded to a newer version. In any event you can always manually delete an app folder if it remains after uninstalling.

That is not the case. Android removes the data folder associated to the app once you uninstall it.

With softkeys, is there any way to get rid of the little arrow which is on the side of the screen (not the ones in the button) as I really never use them and I find it quite annoying as it is ALWAYS there.

I don't recall exactly. In the settings for SoftKeys, uncheck "Running Services" or something simliar. I don't have the app installed.

I just found it out myself and yeah, that will do the job. Thanks!

Is there a description somewhere as how to set another browser (pdf-reader) as the default ones? Meaning, that if I hit "web", that not the nook browser but one I installed will open?

And what is this and this for

Usually in the settings of the app (browser) is an option to make it the default. Or when given the option of choosing which browser you want to use, check the box at the bottom of the prompt window. Apparently the text is white on white so you can see that what it says.

I re-read your post. No, you can't assign the "Web" icon to another app. That would be fab! You can make a browser the default by going into the settings for the app. So, if you clicked on a hyperlink that browser would open.

Do I understand it right, that Live Wallpapers only work if I change the home launcher to another than the standard one? If so, how do I so?

That's correct. In your rooted NC, install a launcher (for instance ADW) just like any other app, and, once installed, press the N button. You will get a dialog asking you which home app to use (B&N's or the one you just installed); if you want to use your new one all the time, click on the check mark.

Once you have your new launcher, you can install and run live wallpapers.
