After reading everything from Daniel Silva (Gabriel Allon series), and the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly, I read The Camel Club series from David Baldacci. Very entertaining read. I have just finished the last two books: Divine Justice and Hell's Corner.

No Good Deed by Mary McDonald
She is on Amazon and Smashwords. One of most gripping books I have ever read. Just have a look at Amazon reviews. |

Recommended Author - Vintage Crime
Stieg Larsson
The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo The Girl Who Played with Fire The Girl who kicked the hornet's nest These three books are great, is really sad that the author died before finishing the third one. But I really recommend these books for men and women. |

I have never heard of Dan Brown (before this thread) and now I'm wondering if I should check him out just to see what everyone hates so much.

Fortunately, it only takes a page of DaVinci Code, page and a half, tops, to get the idea. So you're not talking about wasting a huge chunk of your life.

I had never heard of Dan Brown either until I stumbled across the audiobook Truth and Fiction in The Da Vinci Code. The book was okay, though a bit repetitive (Ehrman's weakness), and rehashed Brown's plot enough to not need to read the book.

That is his!?! Wasn't that considered one of the "best books ever" !?! Oh well, I'll probably take a pass. I wasn't interested in the DaVinci code when it came out, nor am I really interested in it now. I know he has other titles, but I think you picked the perfect example to help make up my mind.

Dale Brown...
Hey, All.
For me, Dale Brown is an author whose's books are hard to put down. I believe he is one of the best military fiction authors around. Regards, |

With the debate of Dan Brown's "talent" aside, one author I remember having difficulty putting down is Sidney Sheldon. Master of the Game and Windmills of the Gods are two titles that have really stuck to mind.
I also think you'd enjoy The Mummy by Anne Rice. |

Since this turned into a Dan Brown bashing thread, I'm going throw in my .02.
I read the DaVinci Code and enjoyed it, even with all it flaws. Angels and Demons was enjoyable to a lesser degree. The problem with Dan Brown is that when material in his books was believed to be factual by a great number of people, he did nothing to dispell those beliefs. Whereas, some authors, like Tom Clancy or Michael Crichton, go to great lengths to explain where the facts end and the fiction begins, Brown used the controversy and deception to help his sales. |

Have you read Thomas Perry? I love all of his books, but my most favorite are the non-Jane Whitfield ones. I enjoyed every one his books, however. They are somewhat short, very sharp, and definitely hold your attention. And Thomas Harris is to die for, to me, no pun intended. And the Stieg Larsson Trilogy, of course! (Don't be discouraged by the beginning of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - slow start but then, hold on!) Enjoyed this thread.

Not to take part of any side and here stating I've never read Dan Brown besides the first few chapters of a translated version of "Digital Fortress", can't help noticing many hate him very much simply because "Da Vinci Code" messes and makes bad claims against big religious institution -- indeed the Catholic Church brought many into the anti-Brown crusade.
They will try to guise it under excuse the of bad writing, but their bias is actually another. |
