It's free.

With Diogenes and the TLG, you click on a word and its dictionary entry comes up. I'm not sure if the New Testament is included in the demo package, but it's worth the effort to try it out. Also:

http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/...on:Greco-Roman

Here you can also read the New Testament with one-click dictionary look-up, without installing anything (just scroll down to "New Testament" and click on the book you want to read).

I'm so proud of you! Self-learning Greek - super tough!
Gawd I love this forum. So many smart, interesting and helpful people!

for those links! I put them in my new Greek Learning folder and I'll check them out later. Your encouragement means a lot.

I was surprised at how well (although not very quickly) I could understand the names on the list in Matthew. Some of the names, like David and Isaac, were pretty straightforward and easy to recognize, while others, like Christ (strictly speaking a title, not a name) and Abraham, were a bit more challenging. It's not easy, but I'm motivated and it's coming. The Greek flashcard app for the iPad has been really helpful.

Finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and will start the Prisoner of Azkaban tomorrow.

I actually realised today while reading that Hagrid is really old ... He was 13 when the Chamber of Secrets was opened 50 years ago, so that makes him 63 in the second book. I always tought he was in his forties

I'm also quite surprised that I'm keeping pace with the rest of the '100 books in 2011' club. I guess I will fall behind when I start the final 4 HP books, they're just so big !

Non-Fiction Alert!

At lunch just now, I started Rejection, Romance and Royalties: The Wacky World of a Working Writer
by Laura Resnick (whom some of you may recongize as a fantasy writer) -- her sense of humor is terrific!

Well, you have to read about 8 books a month to make the 100 books a year, and you already have 4 and it's only the 8th of January! You'll do fine, don't worry.

OK Just finished How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe: A Novel and am moving on to Child of the Northern Spring.

I cannot say that I was thrilled with How to Live... It was an OK read but left me flat. Actually, the entire book felt flat as I was reading it. The concept was interesting but I never found the protagonist all that interesting. I didn't feel vested in what was happening to him or care what was going to happen to him.

Child of the Northern Spring is a novel about Guinevere but told in a very different light. I think I picked this one up as a free novel a while back and I am excited to dive into it.

Unfortunately not. A bit of a dud issue for me, this one. No doubt the next will be better. Most of the stories were either not really SF at all, or were so far in the future or somewhere else that they were almost fantasy. There was one (the last one) that was OK, but I was surprised to find myself so untaken with it, since it was set in a flooded Norfolk, England, which is where I live (well, unflooded, so far!)

Next up: a new purchase, Cryoburn by Lois McMaster Bujold

I have heard good things about this, and couldn't resist any longer.

Just finished _Rouge Wave_ by Boyd Morrison. Buy this book and read it. This is a great story. It's one of those that kept me up late because I could not put it down. It was a really button pusher!!! 4 out of 5 stars!

I really liked Child of the Northern Spring. It is a fresh perspective on the Arthurian legend.

I am about 1/4 of the way in and trying to decide if I like it or not. The story is interesting but the writing feels a bit forced.

Really? I thought it was light and easy. I want to read the next book in the series sometime soon.

It is light and easy but it does not flow. I don't know how to describe it. I am enjoying the story but not the writing, if that makes any sense.

Still reading The Last Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko and I'm also reading The Nightmare Within by Glen Krisch.

About halfway through both - both are great.
